So I have a question. I have a guinea pig her name is Buttercup. However she is a fluffy one. I just got her recently assuming she wasn't being take care of. So her fur is laying towards her face instead on down her back. How do I correct this?

Welcome to the forum

When your registration completes you will be able to add a picture of your guinea pig. Doing so would help us greatly in order to help you.
Some guinea pig breeds do have hair which naturally goes in different directions - there is nothing to ‘correct’. However, we cannot comment on your specific case given as yet given we can’t see what breed/mix of breeds your piggy may be and whether having ‘messier‘ hair is normal for that breed type.

She is beautiful.
Her hair is totally normal, she looks to be a bit Abyssinian so rosettes with hair going in different directions is normal - there is nothing for you to do.

Does she have a friend? If not do look to get her a female friend. Piggies should not be kept alone.

So I just brush her hair in the direction that it is laying? I've never seen a guinea pig with hair like that so I just want to make sure she is being taken care of properly.

She does have two friends. Snowball and Pearl

I have a fluffy Abyssinian boar whose fur is like Buttercups. His isn’t quite so fluffy so I don’t brush it.
He is nearly 4 and still runs away from me.
Piggies are prey animals so their default position is “ you’re going to eat me”..
Time and patience - and food - will win their trust.

It’s a gift guinea pigs have - it’s part of slave training.

If she doesn’t like being touched maybe just talk to her and offer her food from your hand. She will come round .

Are Snowball and Pearl more comfortable around you ? - I’m making the assumption that you have had them longer.

She's lovely. Her fur is supposed to be that way- she has some abyssinian or peruvian in her and has cowlicks that cause her hair to naturally grow in that pattern. If you look up pictures of abyssinian and Peruvian pigs you will find many with similar fur patterns. If you brush (or pat) her go WITH the direction of the hair- most pigs hate being petted 'against the grain.'

She may be scared.

You say you assume she wasn’t being cared for. Why do you think that?
It’s a good idea to have a new piggy vet checked.
