Over the years I have tried piggies on lots of different dried foods, and they never all like the same ones, so I end up feeding a mix, or a half and half mix of pellets and muesli. I have come to loathe these mueslis though, and don't think they are doing my piggies any good whatsoever. I've cut it right down, so they don't get much, but obviously it still forms part of their diet.

My question is, if I feed a good quality pellet and one or two of the three pigs never actually take to the pellets, does it really matter? I've always worried that they will starve or miss out on valuable nutrients if they eat no pellets and just eat hay and veg etc (eg protein, rather than vitamin C - that's not a worry, as I don't expect to get that from the pellets), so I end up giving in and feeding them what they want. But now I'm starting to question this. :-\

I worry about this too, one of my guineas does not like the pellets, and i'm not even sure she eats them, so i also do half and half with wagg, but would prefer not to.

Pellet (or dry) food is only supposed to make up 5% of their diet so I don't think I'd be that worried if a piggy didn't eat it - so long as it was eating plenty of hay and veggies. I have also found that piggies will eat whatever is available in the end.

Well, that's what I thought.... But then, I've never heard of anyone who doesn't feed dried food at least as some proportion of the diet. :-\

I've realised that there is a bit of a flaw to my plan.... One of my piggies is a chirruper, and she chirrups all night (in the room next to mine) if she doesn't get her favourite dried food! ::) In the interests of getting some sleep (it sounds a bit like a car alarm!), I'm going to feed them healthier pellets during the day, but add some of their muesli at night.

I've been quite lucky with mine - they have always been fed pellets so I just carried on giving them the same once I brought them home.
