My two piggies are greedy beasts and eat tons of food. But they can be quite choosy! They eat their Tesco guinea pig food which they get each morning. Then in the evening they get fruit or veg, and I fill their hay racks.

So far they love broccoli, carrot, apple, grapes, spinach, parsley, cucumber and a few other things. But they have refused several things I thought they should like such as red pepper, tomatoes, lettuce, cabbage, courgettes, and mushrooms. Is this normal?

Also I bought some cheap hay from Tesco, and they refused it point blank. Usually it lasts 5 minutes in the cage before it's gone!

They love grapes! Didn't know they were bad, but they've only had them a few times as my children like them too ::)

Seedless grapes can be fed but not to often as their high in sugar or at least it says you can feed them on the shopping list O0

grapes are supposed to be a very rare treat because of the high sugar levels in them. Mine also hate grapes!

gosh... they refuse cabbage?! My girlies say they'll have it if they dont want it! ;) :D ;D I have to watch it though cos they could turn into gas-bags! ;D

I agree with skinnylover... not sure if they're supposed to have 'mushuks' (as I call 'them! ;D). And Romaine lettuce is ok in small amounts ;) but some other lettuces arent very good for them.

Mine don't like grapes either, they don't like anything "fruity" they much prefer their dark green veggies and dandillion leaves.

Everyone is right though, mushrooms are poisonous to piggies, use the shopping list on the home page of the foods forum, I'm pretty new to guineas and that list has been a great help!

Ont hing not on there - pea shoots, never seen them before but got some from tescos yesterday - little green leave, high in Vitamin C, figured they would be ok, piggies liked them, anyone else fed pea shoots?

Mine are still quite young so I'm trying mine with lots of new food, because i read somewhere thats the best time to introduce new foods.

My three girls eat lots of fresh veg give them it twice a day they have hay and the dry food available all the time. They go off things and seem to go off them as a group! Last week it was celery they have decided to leave. The other week it was carrots. Had some carrots so this morning decided to grate it up for them instead of chopping into circles and they have munched it all. So mine are in the fussy piggies gang too. :smitten: :smitten:

Have you tried Science Select?

I have the fussiest herd EVER and they gobble it all up

see, mine will eat carrot, but it cant be whole nor can it be grated, it must be diced ::)

Our two pigs can be quite fussy too, but we accidently found out they love onions and spring onions, are these ok for them? 98)

Now my pigs will eat carrot but it can't be diced, it can't be peeled into shavings and it can't be chopped into circles it has to be whole! Mushrooms and onions aren't allowed and fruit well its a rare treat maybe once a month. I prefer giving them good quality hay and veg instead.

I do feed Romaine, people say it's ok now and again but my pigs aren't keen on anything gassy but I am going through over varieties of lettuce too!

Mine hate grapes
They're carrots have to be baby carrots and they have to be cut in half down the middle ;D
Never feed piggies onions they're a definite no-no
I had no idea lettuce was only supposed to fed occasionly I give it every other day!

i used to feed lettuce everyday too but only for 3 days because i realised it wasnt really good for them.

Mine loves carrots and cucumbers, there theyre favourites, they like there carrots just cut in half, there not too fussy.

I went to town today and I got them some Kale, theyve never had it before but they loved it.

Also they have been in their run msot of today too (because they needed their cage cleaning) and they ate loads of grass ;D
