This is gonna sound odd and I literally can't believe it myself, but one of my girls will not eat the wrong brand of hay to the extent of losing like 50g in a week. Shes done it before and went down to 550g and the vet said she was emaciated. We got cc and pain meds, but once we got the right brand of hay she started eating right away and went up to 800g.
I'm sorry but I can't believe my girl starves herself over the wrong brand of hay. Shes an animal and surely instinct would prevent her starving over the wrong brand. Shes currently on the cusp of 700g which is just on the okay side for her. And it has only been 2 weeks without the branded hay and I am getting some, but I really can't believe it.

I know some piggies can be quite picky. But like you say surely they would eat something rather than starve. 🤷🏻‍♀️.

It’s good the vet ruled out any medical issues though. Make sure you don’t run out of her favourite brand.

Our Gerald attempted to starve himself to death when we changed pellets (did a gradual switch and all!). We caught him in time and brought him over on a slower transition than the rest with Gerald dinners on the sofa.

And our spoilt bunch turned their noses up at shop-bought bagged hay, even some nice looking expensive stuff! They expect their usual, consistent boxes of fresh meadow hay, tout suite!

I am having the same dilemma at the moment. They loooooooove a certain brand of hay. The problem with that particular hay is: 1. I have to shake it twice, from the box to container, then container to indoor container, otherwise one of my piggies will start hooting so bad. 2. I can only shake it and store it outside, but due to the recent spike in humidity and constant rain, this is not possible anymore.

I'm currently looking for a nice soft longstrand hay that i can store indoors but so far I am not getting any luck. They are not keen on everything I have tried so far

The only problem I have with it is the price and I can't afford it on my student loan. My parents have to buy it atm and they're not bottomless pits

What i would suggest (if you are not doing this already) - if they are using litter tray for their hay, i would put any cheap hay at the bottom then put the hay they like on top, i do this with mine and the hay they like lasts ages x
