As some of you know I'm having an op at the end of september and will be going to my parents for 2-4 weeks.

I'm am taking the piggies up the weekend before. I cant take their C&C but but mum has a large is dining room so we are going to set up somthing for them with cage and run, might be a bit smaller than waht they are used to but will let them have lots of floor time and outdoor time, weather permitting.

Anyway back to the question, it is about a 3 hour drive up to my parents, will the piggies be ok in a cat box with hay and pleanty of cucumber, and other greens. Just feel mean sticking them in a small box for so long.

Any tips or advice would be great.
Cheers them x

hiyah, i just transported a piggy on a two hour car journey in one of those fold up washing baskets, he was fine, dont know if this helps or not.

Hope your op goes ok x

Sure they will be fine. I've done a similar journey with my girls in a cat basket, as long as there was plenty of hay and veggies they didn't mind it too much!

Sending good vibes for op...

I agree with all the above they will be fine I've travelled between 5 - 7 hrs with Guinea Pigs in a carrier plenty of hay, some veggies to give them throughout the trip don't attach a Water Bottle it will leak everywhere! x

Sorry if i'm being a bit silly here. There will be 2 in each.

Thanks doglovinpiggyloverxx

Guinea pigs (or in my experience anyway!) don't mind travelling at all. A cat carrier is fine to put them in. Chuck some hay in and they will nom their way through the journey!

Will this be ok for them?

Ps, if you do a search for travelling pig cases etc there have been lots of old threads on this which may help. :)

I would make sure they had cucumber as well as hay, that will help if they get thirsty.

When I was 7 we moved from Birmingham to Dorset, and my sister was given the class guinea pig to take with her as she loved her so much and the teacher knew he would be well loved and cared for.

Spitfire travelled down south in a cardboard box with lots of hay and loads of greens, and never batted an eyelid!

My poor parents - having to pack everything up and move the family a long distance away must have been hard enough (this was in the 70s - cars were a lot smaller and less comfy!), plus we had the dog too, and then we had an extra passenger in the form of a guinea pig :))

Spitfire lived to a ripe old age, and we've had piggies ever since :)

They all seem happy to travel so long as the hay and veg are in plentiful supply!

It is lovely to see how much you care for your piggies. They will be fine. I really hope your operation goes well. Good luck.

Cheers everyone.

Also thanks for the best wishes for the OP, it's a while away yet but just trying to sort everything out.
