This is fairly common my Ellie has this too on both sides. It is called Polydactyly. The extra tow can be removed by a vet. In the case of your pig I would as it looks like it is dangling. Ellie will have hers removed too once I know that she has her pups or I know she isn't pregnant (she was a rescue pig and used for breeding sadly.)

In Ellie's case she is inbred, so this is why she has the extra toes.

The extra "toe" can be easily removed. Do not let your vet tell you the pig needs a general anaesthetic.

I have a piggie with an extra toe that is hanging by a very small piece of skin. I have often wondered wether to have it removed. My vet told me it was ok to leave it unless of course it caused her a problem which so far doesn't seem to have. How would they remove it with GA? would it not be painful?

Once the pig is securely wrapped up (and unable to move!) I would imagine a local anesthetic would be sufficient enough to do the job. It's a quick enough procedure and I agree that it's not worth knocking the pig out cold just for a five minute job on a toe!

I have not seen a polydactyly as formed as that on Liil-Roos piggie though.

Are you cutting your pigs nail soon Liil? Looks like you could take a bit off them.

YES! defiantly, at the end of the month when my OH gets paid were gonna get a nail clipper type thing from pets at home & do them before they go into their new beds, would it be ok to give them a bath before or after doing them as i do need to do both of their claws!:)

We got ours from Wilko's only a couple of pound. :) They don't need a bath to do claws but it is advised that one of you hold the pig while the other trims. :)

I find it is easier to do nails little and often... I am sure i got mine quite cheap from p@h

ive had 1 guinea pig in rescue who had 5 toes and 5 nails on 1 front foot i was cutting his nail and thought oooh wheres this nail coming from and his toe was forked into with 2 nails 2 toes on 1 digit:{:{:{
