Hey guys I'm just wondering what gas drop you guys get in the UK and where from for your pigs. I just want some on hand. Thanks

I’ve never had a pig with bloat (touch wood) so I wouldn’t know - but here in the UK we would take our pig to the vet to get the correct diagnosis and medication to treat the problem.

I have never used gas drops for my piggies in 4 years. If they have any issue I always take them to the vet to be checked out. Symptoms can be very similar and only a vet can make a correct diagnosis and treat accordingly.

I have used infacol and baby gripe water, but it can makes things worse, it did work for my pig but I won't do it again. It was when a vets were closed on a Sunday

Better to go to a vet and have

Emerprid
Cysapride
Zantac ( but that's not being sold anymore because of a recall)

Hi

Do mean bloating medication? Please be aware that we do not support self-medication on spec and strongly advise to see a vet promptly when you have a piggy with bloating issues as it is a potentially lethal problem; as an any time rounds the clock emergency in case of a severe bloat.

There is 24 hour vet cover in the UK and many clinics offer payment plans; people on long term benefits can apply for free vet care from animal charities. Most urban centers and even many towns have now got no frills round the clock clinics (google to see whether you have got one within reach).
Unlike the US, precription-only medication rules are handled much more strictly.

Over the counter baby colic medication is not strong enough in case of a serious bloat and can make it worse instead of better.

You can find information on bloating and what to do in this guide here: Digestive Disorders: Diarrhea - Bloat - GI Stasis (No Gut Movement) And Not Eating

Okay. I only asked as i see some people have and suggest having some on hand but I would much prefer taking a piggy to see a vet over trying to treat any bloat myself. Thank you!

You can find a list of what you can have at home in terms of non-medications support products in a first aid kit:
First Aid Kit: Easily available non-medication support products for an emergency
Emergency, Crisis and Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment
A guide to vets fees, insurance and payment support.

We have also got a guide with tips for illnesses in the digestive system in which we have listed all the gut medication available for guinea pigs for those members that haven't got quick access or access to knowledgeable vets. The medical advice has been proof-read by an experienced exotics nurse who is a long term guinea pig keeper.

You can find our very useful guides either in thematic order via the guides shortcut on the top bar or at the top of the various Care sections if you are looking for any particular information.

I would however recommend to look up your closest regular vets and your closest out-of-hours/24 hours services, so you know where to turn to for advice in an emergency and have one less hurdle to tackle when in a panic. Vets will see anybody in an life or death emergency but it is easier if you are already registered with them.
We have got a recommended vet locator on the top bar, but they may not be quite local to you (mine is about an hour away and there can be a several days waiting list), so having a general vet available locally is important, too, as I know from my own experiences.
