A lot of my last guinea pigs life, he had what I just refer to as "gas pops". I had read that pigs couldn't pass gas, but that they can have little pops that you can feel, or even hear. My last piggy was never really bothered by it, because it would just come and go. Once I mentioned it to the vet, but she just said he needed a little more vitamin C. I gave him a lot, and they never really stopped, but, again, it didn't bother him, either. My current pig had some kidney stone trouble last night, and throughout most of today, but overall he seemed to make a really fast recovery. I was spending some time with him, and noticed the little pops. I know the emediate response would be "if something's unusual, take him to the vet.". The thing is, I know what the vet would say- more vitamin C. I want to know why the gas pops are happening. At this point, even just for my own curiosity. So, any ideas what would cause this? Thanks!

@GuineaLoveJane How were the kidney stones diagnosed, and how are they being treated?

Audible stomach sounds are not normal for a guinea pig, but are not always cause for concern. It tends to mean that they have a digestive issue of some sort. It can happen when a pig is bloated or has diarrhoea. I have a pig that has loud stomach sounds which have been going on his whole life. He has been diagnosed with a piggy form of IBS and we need to be careful on what veg he has. He is also prone to bouts of weight loss which we need to monitor.

The vet in my town cannot treat kidney stones, so all of my family has been monitoring him, and he doesn't seem to be in pain anymore. He's drank, eaten, pooped, peed, and he seems really happy. I just got my pig about 3 weeks ago, so I have not experimented with many vegies yet, but he loves carrots. I've given him lots of Timothy hay since he first showed signs of stones.
