Mini Roll, 2 year old neutered sow, is not content with the vet attention to her herd friends- Misu (old gal with arthritis and liver condition), Gelato (recent diagnosis of a bladder tumour) and Parkin's recent hospital admission and passing.
Yesterday, instead of her usual vocal piggie chatter, she did her best impression of a geiger counter. It could also be described as the crunchy sound when walking on snow, but faster paced.
She was otherwise well, eating, drinking, pooping- but was chattering her teeth when chilling in her hammock (without an obvious prompt, like slow veg delivery).
She promptly saw her exotic vets, and is now on a course of antibiotics, antiinflammatories and nebulisers to help her respiratory system. We're also giving her some pro-C.
As she had a tender abdomen and a recent episode of straining soon after Parkin died, we did admit for investigations incase there is something else going on. As we are expecting further losses in the herd this year, we'd rather know of any health issues nowbthan at a stressful time such as a new bereavement or during bonding. We're waiting on CT and blood results. She didnt get an ultrasound as her breathing was very strained under anaesthetic, and her urinary system looked reasonably clear on CT.
I had high hopes that Lady Roll would be our healthy piggie this year, but the recent herd changes have likely had a shock to our happy youngest pig.
She does seem happy this evening and is less unintentionally noisy. She's on day 2 of antibiotics, so I'm hoping we see more improvement over the weekend. Feel better soon Mini Roll.
