Hello everyone, while since I last posted sorry - life has been hectic.

I am away visiting my mother as some may recall, I posted just before going.

Just got a message from OH that he has found Sooty-Pig "asleep" in the house in the big cage. I told him to take her to the vet to find out why and gave him a list of instructions:

"Put her in a shoebox with bedding and something of mine to give her from the desk draws, try and find something with wings like I gave the babies. Write her a note saying we will miss her, never forget her and always love her and sign it from us and all the other pigs. Ask her to look after Cocoa and Cotton at the Rainbow Bridge for me, tell her I am sorry I can't say goodbye but will visit her and that we are sorry for ever being cross with her for anything and sorry she couldn't stay longer. Put it all in the box and and close it and write "Sooty-Pig x". Please take a picture of her and the things she will be buried with and the box when she is in it saying "Sooty-Pig X". Make sure she gets a kiss and a kiss on the box too. Fuss over Brandy-Snap, she'll know even though they aren't in the same cage at the moment, sisters."

FYI Brandy Snap is looking after Jellybean for me. Rob is on his way to the vet now with Sooty-Pig and I feel like I never deserved to have her in my life because I can't say goodbye to her. I hope she knows she was loved. I'll take her, Cocoa and Cotton some flowers when I get back.

Another slap in the face from life...

text update from OH

just got this:

"Been to vet, most likely to be a shock or heart attack. Vet said no signs, no injuries - can see she was well looked after, just happens sometimes"

Should I be happy or not about that? Happy she wasn't living in pain with something I suppose... she's still gone though.

At least it sounds like it was quick and not painful and she was at home, not scared or hurt somewhere. I'm sure she knows she was very well loved,
Run free little Sooty-PIg
Hugs to you
xx

:( So sorry to hear about little Sooty-pig, of course she would have known she was loved!

Big hugs and it sounds like she passed away peacefully in her sleep x

Thank you all for the replies, I just feel so guilty I can't be there to say goodbye. He's given her my favourite butterfly pendant - silver with pink gems and a note, everything I told him to do, basically. Was not wise to put makeup on today!

So sorry for your loss, sometimes pets just go without any warning. There is nothing anyone can do sometimes, take comfort from the fact that she wasn't suffering and went peacefully.
RIP Sooty-Pig x

BIG HUG

Having just lost one of my own to sudden heart failure, I know how difficult it is to deal with an unexpected death.

Console yourself that your baby didn't suffer. It is sad that you couldn't be there, but even then you wouldn't have been able to save her. :(

That is a lovely tradition you have. I always bury mine with some flowers from the garden that suit the personality.

RIP Sooty-Pig

Thank you, I do it because I worry they wont know they were loved

She would have known how much you loved her, its a lovely thing to do to put something personal in with her. Hugs to you at this sad time.

Thank you, I really hope so. I want them to have something with wings to carry them to the bridge, a butterfly in this case and something precious to me- the butterfly also serves this purpose. I wanted Rob to give her a bracelet I made but he couldn't find it. I'll have to find it when I get back.

Thank you everyone for the replies.

Rob (OH) has been telling me that Brandy-Snap, Sooty-Pig's sister, has been very depressed.

In light of how Cinnamon wanted to adopt the pair of them when we first got them and how she wanted to look after poor baby Cotton before she died, I told him to let them spend some time out together...

He told me Cinnamon was washing her and talking to her and giving her kisses. What a wonderful little girl she is! I am so proud of her! We are both still devastated over the loss of yet another of our children, as we see them but things like this really do help. I know Cinnamon can't realise just how much I adore her and how grateful I am to her for looking after the other pigs when I can't or just wanting to help me take care of them like she did with Cotton.

I'm also putting "Sooty" after Brandy's name, like a middle name as I did with the babies... So she is now Brandy-Snap Sooty Anderson. I'll be back with them soon, at least I have that to look forward to.

Hello again all...

I bought some beautiful frames today.

Looking through my pics of Sooty-Pig. Narrowed it down to these two:

Photo0328.jpg

I'll put a pic of her in one and a pic of Cotton and Cocoa in the others, one in each. 4 days till I see my babies (pigs) again! :)

So sorry to hear the loss of you little one

RIP Sooty-Pig
