RIP - 21/01/17

This has by far been one of the worst weeks...Last Friday (13th) George was found to have a saggy neck. We took him to the vet next day and were told it was free fluid and most likely due to his heart. We were given frusol and he was on metacam anyway for his arthritis. George was continuously up and down, my partner worked from home so he could syringe feed throughout the day. Thursday 19th he called me to come home as he thought George was the worst he'd been and he didn't know what to do.

We called a local vet to take George to be PTS as he was not moving or interested in eating. However whilst waiting George decided he wanted to eat and tried to climb out of the carrier. We couldn't feel confident in making the decision so we left taking George home with us, to nurse til morning and take to the exotic vet.

He was hospitalised by the exotic vet and a heart scan (echo) performed. It was found that he definitely had a heart problem causing it not to contract efficiently. He was put on extra meds for this and was eating and doing well.

Yesterday evening we received a call from the vet to say that George had collapsed. His heart was still beating but was very faint and weak. We made the heart wrenching decision to say goodbye.

Our house will literally not be the same. George was the loudest most cheekiest pig. He was our alarm clock in the morning and dinner bell in the evening. He loved a cuddle, he trotted about like a mad pig (especially when you fed him something yummy - he'd run to a 'safe spot' to eat).

We've had George since he was born and he was going to be 6 years on 16th April this year.

He's had many different friends throughout his life through no fault of his own. He really did find a special bond with his latest buddy Basil who is now sadly grieving.

RIP my sweetheart. I wish we could have had much longer together as you brought us so much happiness.

I am very sorry - you have done your best for George right up to the end. It is very draining when you come up against an issue that is up and down and that you can only do a limited amount about. :(

You are going to feel very blue in the next few days, not just from your loss, but simply and very physically from the adrenaline hangover; I am currently experiencing that over my Tanni's passing after a week of bloating.

It is always too soon, especially when you have a special bond as you have with George, but he has had a very good and happy life and has lived a normal life span.

I am sure that you now have a very dedicated little furry guardian angel looking out over you and his friends. George will always have a nest in your heart in your many precious memories of him!

That is a lovely and very fitting tribute to a wonderful pigsonality; it really comes across in your pictures.

Awe I'm so sorry to be reading this. It's heartbreaking to make the decision but we all know it was for the best. Massive hugs to you and your partner, RIP little George xx

I am so sorry you had to help your beautiful boy across the bridge, you were there when he needed you the most, I know that doesn't make it any easier but please try and take some comfort from it.

Huge hugs x

Sleep well handsome boy

I'm so sorry for your loss. This is heartbreaking to hear. I can't imagine what you're going through. You did all you could and he had a great life by the sounds of it.
