I took Georgie to my local vets 4 pets today as I noticed last night about 1 o’clock he sounded very raspy when breathing. He was the same this morning so booked him in.The vet prescribed baytril and I’ve gave him his 1st dose.I wanted to ask about pro biotics.Ive got pro c.Do I just sprinkle it on his food or do I syringe some? Also I know you can dilute baytril with Ribena to mask the taste. How much do I use?

Poor Georgie! Hope he feels better soon.

Pro C is best syringed imo, about an hour or two after the antibiotic :) Regarding the baytril I would personally do without the Ribena as it's quite sugary. When it's baytril time for my piggies I just get it in as soon as possible and give them a nice veggie treat afterwards. I did try adding something to the baytril once but it just prolonged the agony as it just meant they had more to be syringed and they still didn't like it.

Thanks, ok I’ll just give him something nice afterwards. How much pro c do I need to syringe? Does it matter how much powder I use?

Hi! I would give the baytril on its own, but then follow it up with the ribena to wash the taste away. It is easier to get a small dose in than a syringe full, which you need to do in two lots. You give as much ribena as baytril.
This thread here gives you tips on how to hold an uncooperative piggy. Administering Medications

You can give probiotics either dissolved in a little water, in their syringe feed or sprinkled on their favourite veg (which some piggies can neatly nibble around and leave be). The safest method is the first; that way you control how much is actually going in.

All the best! Place a bowl of steaming water next to the cage to help ease the breathing; repeat at need.

I normally just do a pinch per full syringe but as I have 5 pigs who all love Pro C I end up mixing the 1 scoop per 250 mls and everyone gets some so no one is left out :))

Anything will do, even a syringe of water or some mushed up pellets etc. ;)
