Today I noticed my 7 1/2 year old sow has bright orange urine.
The past couple of months she seems to lose weight and then gain it back. I know she’s struggling a bit to keep the weight on because she just eats way more than she used to. Both of my sows eat the same diet and same veggies. The older one ‘Azera’ is the one I’m worried about. I have checked her teeth and they are fine. She does have a couple of lumps on her one is on her back near her spine but I’m pretty positive it’s just a sebaceous cyst which I’m just leaving alone since it hasn’t changed in size in a very long time.
Does anyone know what the orange urine could be caused by? Is it normal for some piggies to have this? I’ve had many piggies before but none have had this. My biggest concern is kidney failure/problems.
She doesn’t seem to be in pain or less active than normal. I do give her a topical CBC cream on her ears a few times a day to help with any discomfort she may not be showing and for her arthritis.
any advice would be great. I just don’t want to stress her out by bringing her to the vet and having a bunch of expensive procedures done unless I 100% have to.
Let me know what you guys are thinking, thanks!

I can only advise that you take her to the vet to be checked over. We can’t diagnose anything on here, and can only advise what you can suggest/ask your vet.

If you’re taking her, take her friend along for company. And make sure it’s a cavy savvy vet and not a general one.

No one on here (far as I know) uses CBC cream, so you’re not likely to get much info on that. If she has arthritis then wouldn’t a painkiller be better for her?

I meant CBD cream not CBC

CBC works wonders as a holistic/natural pain killer. I’d rather us something natural instead of painkillers that can harm the body as well. She is not in severe pain so doesn’t need anything stronger at the moment. I’m just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with their piggy and what ended up being the issue and solution (if any)

I can only echo siikibam’s advice. Nobody on here will ever recommend anything other than veterinary prescribed treatment for any problem and taking her to a vet for any medical problem is essential. We are not able to diagnose anything. Orange urine could be caused by many issues and there would be no way of knowing which one it was without a vet checking her over.

This is a direct quote and not my own words:
"The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD), part of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, said: 'There are currently no CBD-based products that have been granted a UK veterinary marketing authorisation.'"

Welcome to the forum.
Sorry your piggy is unwell.
She’s a wonderful age.
I can only echo what others have said - you really need to take her to a vet.
Hope everything works out well.
Please keep us posted

Welcome to the forum.

I’ve had two piggies now who have had bright orange / rusty coloured urine. I took them to the vets and it turned out to be bacteria within the bladder but sadly, your girl does need to see a vet to rule out any nasties.

I should also point out that Connie had chronic bladder problems and Eliza started weeing orange urine after a uti

I thought so but wasn’t sure 😁
What proof is there that painkillers will do any damage to your piggies body? Unless she’s prescribed the wrong dosage and strength then it should be okay. There are quite a few piggies on here who are on metacam long term for whatever reason. And I’m not sure how you can tell she’s not in too much pain. Piggies generally hide illnesses very well. Metacam can be used for mild pain as well.

Have you booked her in to see a vet yet?
