I had an old bag of Gerty Guinea Pig sitting gathering dust, it was given to me by the people who gave me Patches. I slowly switched him to Excel nuggets but wondered what to do with the remaining muesli (I hate waste!)
Anyway, I chucked it outside to rot down as compost in a planter which I use purely to grow pak choi in the summer. The pak choi have since died back due to the heavy rain.
However, from the little rice/wheat-like grains from the guinea pig muesli grew some thick grass (which I'm guessing is oats or maize). I found that during those rare days the guineas were allowed outside they would try and yank that grass to eat and frankly adore it! I've been letting it grow and cutting little bits as treats every now and again, which they go mad for!
So, anyone with some old Gerty, you can grow some 'yummy grass' from it!
