My girl who got hay poke awhile ago over a year has now started to get a cloudy eye. We are pritty sure she's blind in her eye from the hay poke.

But just wondering if it's anything serious?

Been trying to get one. But the lighting isnt great.

It's mild atm but noticeable. You can make her eye details out.

I’m afraid I don’t know how to help, I hope there’s nothing seriously wrong with your pig

i would try putting your hand or a treat of some kind if front of only that eye to see if she can see it and/or has some kind of reaction whether thats her reaching out to bite it or smell it. if there is no reaction, i would try to get in touch with your vet but i guess in the meantime, i would protect the eye from bright lights. I'm not an expert but thats a good way to see if she has vision in that eye and protect it because it is probably still healing. i hope its nothing serious and that she gets better <3

This took a long time.
The hay poke was away last year.
But this has only popped up or I only noticed it this morning.

While she's at her hay and that side facing me I make aggressive moves with my hands toward her and she doesn't flinch at all.

She may have had another hay poke? My Orca's has had multiple ones in a week before :(

Can you see any foreign bodies in the eye, under the eyelid?

If you could phone the vets & find out if you can email photos of her eye to them? Or get advice & drops/painkillers for her, a sudden onset of a cloudy eye often signifies an eye injury :(

If you're struggling to get a vet (general one will do) as everyones locked down at the moment & bank hols in the UK ring the vet first thing tomorrow morning to seek advice.

Have you tried to bathe her eye with a pinch of salt dissolved in approximately an egg cup of boiled & then cooled water?
You don't need to wipe her eyes, just make a strip of clean paper kitchen towel into a wick by twisting it & drop 2-3 drops in her eye.
This would help keep the eye clear of debris & hydrated, but it's only for temporary relief & not a permanent fix.

If it's been a gradual clouding over it could be cateracts forming, in which case theres not normally anything done, but Guineas get by ok normally with little or no sight.

But ring the vets at your earliest, the longer eyes are left the more likely they will develop complications :(

Healing vibes being sent your gorgeous girls way for a full & speedy recovery  xx

Anything that crops up suddenly may well be another acute injury (i.e. another hay poke) in the same eye. Cataracts and such may cause cloudiness, but do not turn up suddenly like that. A vet visit is probably in order to get an assessment and some antibiotics.

It's just strange it doesn't look injured or red.
Nothing like what it was before.

I tried for about an hour to do that but she wasn't having any of it. I managed to dab it gently a couple of times.
So frustrating trying to help these

OK. I managed to lift her and my girlfriend got a good lot in her eye by mistake. But better than getting none in I hope
