hi guys i have one guinea pig. i am debating wether to get a friend for him? the women in the pet shop said they might fight and you would have to corner of the cage so if your out they wont fight. is this worth doing or should i just keep my guinea pig on his own? i let him out 2-3 times a day for a good exercise. any replies would be great. thanks :)

I have only been a guinea pig owner for two weeks but I know guinea pigs shouldn't be on their own. I have four and they came in pairs but I put them all together in a brand new cage. There was a lot of chasing around and squealing which frightened me at first but the general advice is that unless there's blood or teeth chattering they should just be left to get on with it. Mine still chase each other round a little but things have settled down a bit now.

Are you in the UK? If so your best option is to go to a rescue who offers bonding so your pig can choose their own friend. We have a recommended rescues locator at the top of the forum.

Hi there. The pet shop is totally wrong. Guinea pigs are social animals and need a friend. You cannot just put two guinea pigs together and hope they get on. The way to get your guinea pig a friend is to take him to a rescue were they will let him meet other guinea pigs and choose the one he likes best. This rescue locater will help you to find your nearest one.
