Hi!

I am getting a long haired guinea pig, its is black and white and he is quite big, about 1 year old, just wondering about grooming tips and if they have any special needs? other than occasionally trimming their hair..

I will also be getting a short haired piggy.. here is what I already have:

Food(for 3 - 4 months)
Hay (6 months)
VetBeds(x2 sets)
C&C + Smaller Cage
Bath and Comb

You also need two hides and water bottles. When I had a long haired piggy I just kept his hair short.

A good comb! I too try and keep my long haired piggy on the shorter side and when it gets hot everything comes off and it looks like she's been attacked by scissors!

I use dog grooming scissors (because I groom my own dogs) and they are very good :)

I keep the bum and sides of my own longhair piggies always cut short, as they tangle and mess up quickest. In summer, my own long hair piggies get a full shorthair cut so they are not walking around with the equivalent of a skiing coat on a tropical beach. By autumn, the hair is grown back. If you wish, you can keep the top layer longer, but ideally you shorten the lower layers for the piggy's comfort.
Gorgous guineas do a special shampoo for longhair piggies: http://gorgeousguineas.com/products.html

You can also hand sew your own fleece cosies, by the way; it is not that difficult.

thanks all! I have ordered some dog grooming scissors as apperently they pull less on the fur! I am so excited!

I will be making my own cosies unless someone from here can make them? Obviously I will pay!

I will most likely keep the top layer long as enland weather is (especially in leeds...) Is VERY unpredictable.. as I am sure you all know..LOL!

xx if anyone has any advice pls do let me know! xx
