So after last week lossing our much loved big jack. We have taken the weekend to have a think about a new mate for buttons.
He is doing well eating and drinking. We are making sure we give him extra attention.

But we would like to get a female guinea pig for our buttons.

Can anyone get me and advice on this?

Thank you so much.
Will he be okay on his own for the 6 weeks?

:agr:

Provided he is doing ok, maintaining his weight etc then he should be able to wait the 6 weeks (plus the time between now and the neuter surgery).

If he struggles being alone then he won’t be able to wait but you do have two options in that event

1. Get him another boar friend and bond immediately.
2. Get him a young sow friend but do not bond them immediately. Instead, book his neuter surgery but put the two piggies in separate but side by side cages so they can still interact between the bars before they can be bonded. His cage would need to be very secure so he cannot escape and get in with her. This would enable them to get to know each other and still have company while he waits to become post neuter safe.
