Getting Amberoo A Friend! Need A Few Tips!

Hellooo :D so... I'm getting Amber a friend! woooooo :yahoo:!
I'm going in the morning to get one! I'm very excited, popped up my 80 ferplast this evening.

Anyway, I was just wondering about a few things, firstly:
They wont be being fed vitakraft and I only have vitakraft and dont particularly want to buy a huge bag of whatever there on so will it be okay to put her straight on vitakraft? or should I introduce it like.. two a day or something and slowly increase it?

also...

Amber was the less dominant pig in her last partnership so the chances of them not getting on is slim right? also, will she be the dominant this time round as she will be a lot older or does it not work like that?

Thanks guys! Will obviously put pictures up tomorrow of the new addition.
Names and any other tips would be great too! :D
 
Obviously the best tip is to go to a recommended rescue where they can help do the bonding there to minimise the chance of you having two pigs that don't get on. When I rescued Issy I was given a small "doggy bag" of the pellets she was used to so I could mix them in with my ones and get her gradually used to it so it will be worth asking when you get her a friend

I would like to go to a rescue but unfortunately I cant, the rescues around me wont pass me for two reasons, 1 I have 4 cats and a cat flap and two because of the cage size despite the fact they get ample amounts of run time. Its a shame, and annoying :(. I'm going to ask p@h for a small bag of pellets, I know the girl who works with the animals in there so hopefully she can give me some. Thank you :)

Ah pants I know that feeling as one of my local ones won't rehome to outdoor homes so that rules me out. Worth asking if they can spare a few pellets, you only really need enough to mix in for a few days

Yeah :( sometimes I think like...I'm glad rules are strict.. because of course you don't want them going somewhere unsuited, but if they haven't even seen the place and they rule out before even getting to know the potentially owners or even looking around its a bit like... well how will you ever re-home anything.
I will defiantly ask for pellets, like you said, I don't need loads, just a few :D
 
Have fun finding a pal for Amber. We just recently adopted Mollie and she was on different pellets. I was given a small sandwich bag of her pellets that I sprinkled on top of the pellets we have. She's fully converted now to the Excel.

Whether the two girls get on, depends on the individual personalities. With a younger piggy, she is likely to be the more dominant; with an older piggy, it depends. I generally prefer to date any single piggy that I cannot bond within one of my groups to make sure that they are character compatible.

Best of luck and please read our bonding guides carefully.

Name suggestions are welcome, I was a small cute name like Tilly, or Millie, I'm not allowed anymore T names as we already have a tink, Timmy and tippy in the house Hahaha.

Sooo excited though, it was meant to be! She started sniffing when I went up to the side, and I'm sure she looked at me! :D I loves her already!
 
She's beautiful. Will she live in Amber's cage once the quarantine and bonding is complete? or are you planning a new set up?

Fingers crossed bonding goes well, She'll be living in ambers cage :)! I'll be getting a bigger cage in the long run but need to get new liners and everything so need to do it in stages as its quiet expensive all in one go :D

Thanks guys! Think Millie is going to stick now, its between Millie or Alice, were gunna wait abit to see more of her personality though :D
 
Millie is a lovely name, and somehow she does look like a Millie :)
Congratulations, hope the two of them settle well together. :)

So...I have some um...bad news... Millie... Is a male. So.. As much as it breaks my heart I'm going to have to take him back, I wish I could keep him and get another friend for him but I can't, I don't have the room. A lot of crying is going to happen for me tonight :(
