Hi, wondering if anyone can give me some advice, we already have one guinea pig female (Pippa), she's approx 6 months old and she lives outdoors, she seems to be happy enough however we were wondering about getting another female to join her, we just don't know if we have left it too late?
Any advice will be gladly appreciated.
Yvonne.

it is never too late for introductions, but you just need to do them the right way. i think there is a sticky in the behaviour thread about this.
good luck

Yes you should have get another one...and there is a sticky in the forum section talking about introduction a new guinea pig... I am sure Pippa will be very happy to have a friend.

Good luck with the intro!

My guinea pig Amber lived alone although her cage was next to my other piggy Bailey's cage. When he died I got her a little girl to keep her company as she was very subdued, she's about 15 months old now and their introduction went really well.
I found all the info on here very helpful (although I was still scared the day I put them in the pen together:red ) x

Definitely get her a friend. She'll be so much happier than you could imagine. :(|)

Perhaps consider contacting your local rescue. They will be able to advise on bonding and Pippa may even be able to go and choose her own friend.

As you're in Scotland you could try Becklen Gp rescue who is a forum member. I believe they rehome across a wide area and are very helpful.

I did the exact same thing only a few weeks ago :)
My sow Poppy is six months and we introduced her to "baby pig" who's about two months old. She bullied her at first and chased her round a bit but once she had asserted her dominance and reassured herself that she was bigger than the baby she was ok with it and now they love each other! :)

I agree - never too late and she will definitely appreciate it!

Hi

I introduced a lonely female piggy to my already existing trio of sows and had no problems with introducing her to their home. She has become the boss, she is alot bigger and older which I kinda expected would happen. You should definitely get another girl to join her they don't like it on their own.

x

Yes, I say go for it too!

Girls are said to be much easier to introduce than boys too. I introduced my older girls (another Pippa and Willow) to little Pixel when they were about 9 months old and they took to her very well.

My Pippa (in my avatar) is now very close to the younger girl

If you speak to a local rescue, you may be able to take Pippa along so she can choose her own friend :)

Good luck
