remind me please
if I get a piggie from a petshop (I know, I know rescue would be ideal but this is from viewpoint of petshop piggie)

I need to keep them sepearted for how long to make sure new piggie doesn't have any bugs or anything? Or can we try them straight in?

And then I follow barmy4boars introducing methods..over how long a time?

basically if you had 1 boar and bought another from the petshop how would you get them together, over what period of time?

cheers

I'm no expert, I don't think its an exact science tho! I think you have to introduce them gradually, follow barmy4Boars methods, but I think it depends on the piggies as to the length of time, and some may never bond..

The quarantine period for a pet shop pig is 2-3 weeks. In that time if they have any health problems they will show in that time.

You then need to introduce on neutral territory. Put them both down with some veggie there for distraction & watch them to see if they take to each other or not. Have a towel there ready to throw over one of them if it looks like turning into a fight!

Now if they get along in this introduction you can put them in the cage together but if its a cage your piggie is living in at the moment you need to sterilize it, along with dishes, toys etc. with baby sterilizing solution. Also arrange everything differently in the cage so it looks different to what your existing piggie is used to.

Thing is, if you get the new piggie pal from a rescue you can take yours along & they can do the initial introduction there. Also, if things go wrong once you get the pigs home you then have the option of taking the new pig back to the rescue.

Good luck with what ever you decide to do O0
