Getting desperate.

I'm sorry but I think it's really poor to say that you don't have the money for the train fare to take them to a rescue. You are an adult and you took on the care of four animals. You must surely have realised when you did this that expenses would be involved.

You had the cash to purchase all of them (plus a cage and accessories) from Pets at Home and to get there.

What would you have done if they had all gotten along well but needed to see the vet?

If Sarah comes to you to pick them up, she will be doing this with her own cash.
Likewise, your expectation that a rescue will offer you a door-to-door service at their own expense is irresponsible. We are frequently seeing small rescues close their doors because fewer people are adopting and more people are wanting to surrender their pets. Rescues are not large charities with massive fundraising teams but frequently dedicated individuals who put their own cash into helping animals.

What a sad situation, but I do think going further a field is the best option.

My Fred has been from Northern Ireland to Scotland on public transport buses, train and ferry's. My girls came from England to Northern Ireland and back to Scotland.

Milo only last year, went with me to visit SuzyGPR in Wales to be paired up from Scotland all done on public transport its not a big deal they travel fine.

All you need is a cat carrier filled with hay and some watery veggies!

What a terribly unfortunate situation.

I realize that people have very strong opinions on this matter and I share a number of of them but I really don't think it's beneficial going forward to add fuel to the fire.

The OP has made a mistake which she has recognized, she has apologised and has come to this forum for support. Support in which one of our wonderful members has kindly offered. One of the reasons I love this forum is to because we support each other, and because we are passionate about our piggies. I think it's much better that the OP has come here than resorting to (god forbid) dumping these lovely boars or leaving them at P@H. I'm sure everyone is agreed in that.

My aim is to diffuse the heated debate and I hope I don't offend anyone by posting this. I know it's only because we care so much and I'm sure that with our constructive advice and support, these boars will find their much deserved forever homes.

As so many have already said - this is a very sad decision you've had to make- but i personally feel from reading all your replies that'd you'd be better off surrendering all 4 pigs - why? Because you've already stated you cannot afford the cost of a train ticket - nor do you have the desire to travel.

If your lone pig gets ill (i hope this never happens) and you need to travel to get him to the vets how are you going to do it? My sow recently cost me £180+ in vets bills (and this was a highly reduced cost due to our circumstances - the cost i fear was actually double that figure) - now both me and my partner are un-employed at the moment but we found the money from somewhere. Further to this was the 3hr 30mins bus ride i had to do there and back on 4 separate occasions.

I really feel for you and your situation and from reading the posts i don't think anyone has attacked you personally, i just think they are being honest. It takes a bigger person to admit they are wrong.....

Good luck :)

I really thought people would offer me help and advice on this site, but apart from Sarah, all the rest of you have done is make me feel even worse.

I adore these guinea pigs very much, and DIDN'T take it lightly when I purchased them, unfortunately I wasn't advised that boys wouldn't get on. So to my distress when they started to fight I was devastated.

As to spending money, when I bought these guinea pigs they ALL went to the vets for a check up, and I even had to have antibiotics x4 as they each had an URI. When the others attacked Damon (the one that I have decided to keep) I even took a day off university to rush him to the vets at my own cost.

As for travel, I travel 2 hours a go to university and back at my own cost.

So please don't tell me that I am irresponsible and that I should be prepared to spend money. All I want is to give my boys to a good home, and I thought I could find that on this site.

I hope you do not treat everyone on this site like this, otherwise you will lose people! I am quite disgusted at how you have all blamed me, when all I have been trying to do is the best I can in my situation.

So you have now lost a member to this site, and I will not be recommending anybody else to here as you have all shown me how much you don't care.

I understand sometimes funds are low, but Sarah will be using her own money to come to you. She will then be spending her own money feeding your pigs.

If your really hard up, I'll happily donate £15 to you on the condition they go to Helen at Kidsgrove and you take them to cover the train fare.

Sarah, thank you very much for your offer of help, but my mum has now found a brilliant home for them and I will be able to visit when I want to.

Thank you and I hope you can help someone else in need in the future, instead of attack them like the other members of this site have done.

Disgusting.

rainbowstarsx - my posts were not intended to attack or hurt - i was merely giving a suggestion that may help your situation. Like i said ive been in your situation struggling for funds - so i know how difficult it can be.

I'm genuinely sorry if any of my posts came across as preaching or you felt like i was attacking you - i can assure you i wasn't.

I'm glad you've found a good home for your boys :)

I also hope my post didnt come across mean, or attack you in any way they werent meant to. I was simply stating, as a student myself i have walked and got buses with my boys, and hoped that telling you about my experiences with travelling with piggies might reassure you :)

I think many people are passionate, as yourself, on this forum esp when it comes to guinea pigs that are needing new homes, and sometimes i think the way some views are put across can seem hurtful even though they are intended to be helpful. I hope you dont leave the forum, everyone i believe, was trying to help you and give advice/ support in the best possible way.

I'm also glad you've found a loving home for your boys xx

I'm sorry if you felt that people telling the truth was hurtful. Everyone merely had the best interests of your animals at hard and nobody was insulting or in any way rude to you. I think if that makes you feel guilty then you need to look at your own feelings and decisions before blaming the members here who were only trying to help.

I'm glad your piggies have found the home they deserve. On that note... enough said methinks!
