On may 11th, I'm a little worried haha, has anyone else has their boars done? & did you have any problems?

Are they going to live with girls?

If not there is absolutely no reason to get them done - it will NOT calm down any boarish behaviour or stop any fighting.

A lot of people on here had had boys done to live with girls or for medical reasons, myself included, it is something noone ever decides to do lightly and even then most seek out a very cavy savvy vet who has done numerous successful operations as, as with anything involving a GA, there is a significant risk a small animal won't wake up, then a lot of post op issues can occur.

I don't want to put you off, just make you aware it is not the same as getting a cat, dog or bunny done xx

My vet is cavvy savvy :) but now you have said that, I was just hoping to stop the squabbles, not that there is many, but it does stop problems like prostate problems and stuff like that later on in life doesn't it?

Not that I am aware of hun, in fact from speaking to several very knowledgable people on here (SuzyGPR and Pebbles are two to name but a few) there can be more problems caused by neutering than just leaving them be.

Are they squabbling badly? xx

Glad you have a cavy savvy vet :) xx

Occasionally, there has never ever been blood though, thank god, but my grandma is making me put them outside in a hutch even though they have been indoor piggies since I got them, and they squabble when something changes, so I'm worried that when I put them outside they will squabble, though they will be coming in for winter with the winters we have been having. Though if it isn't gonna calm them and there is no real ups to it if I'm to gonna be getting girls then I might cancel the appointment for it. ?/

Have a read of this thread 'Audioheart' has said what I was gonna write....(but better)

:)

quote =

Neutering does little to change the behaviour of guinea piggles, unlike the effect it has on other animals. Also, neutering does little to curb mounting or other dominance behaviours. It will only prevent unwanted pregnancies.

Dominance is part of guinea pig soical life, some pigs aren't very dominant whereas for others it's part of every day life, and as your boys hit the hormonal stage dominance will be a common occurance!

Harvey and Artie, my boys are always 'testing' each others dominance with one another, whether that be mounting (from all directions!) nose off's quiet teeth chattering etc, you must let me display natural behaviour and eventually as they reach a year old this should slow down, and they'll calm down. Females, sows are also like this, i've heard sometimes worse!

It can be hard to watch one be a bully to the other, but they are just sorting themselves out -who's going to be top pig and whos the under piggie
