Hi,

My guinea pig seems to only like to eat high calcium veg only. He had a bit of a problem with kale (he started making noise while pooping). So I totally stopped it and he is now fine.

Another favourite is romanian lettuce. I understand you cannot feed him this everyday. So I tried getting him interested in other vegs. Any advice? I have tried:

1. celery (only the leaves he will eat),
2. red pepper (sniff and no more),
3. parsley (after 2 days he did not want it anymore),
4. savoy cabbage (just not a sniff at it),
5. cucumber (losing some interest),
6. carrots (loves them but not a daily veg),
7. spinach (two leafs and no more),
8. red cabbage (he seems to love it-is it safe?)
9. coriander (loved it for 3 days and no longer touch it),
10. gem lettuce (not keen and will eat part of it).

I have tried
1. leaving it in the cage,
2. feeding it everyday,
3. chopping them in tiny pieces mixing it with the romanian (he sussed it out!)

Nothing works!

My shopping bill is quite high trying different veg (of course over a period of a month). He seems so picky! Even with hay, he can't seem to make up his mind which brand he likes.

I can tell by your list that you have done quite a bit of research already. I assume you have seen this link ..

I seem to recall from previous posts that you have a one guinea pig. This is part of the problem. When guinea pigs have companions, they are more likely to eat what veg is given to them.

One food which is not on your list which is worth a try is dwarf beans . Mine didn't touch them at first , but now they love them. I would persevere in offering a slice of pepper ( preferably green).

If your guinea pig was wheeking after eating kale, I would seriously consider following the "IC " diet.

Hi,

He has stopped wheeling. I took out his kale totally and gov him his romanian lettuce one leave a day. Then I I stop giving him any veg for a day.

I am really worried about hi being alone but torn in between. I adopted him from a farm and they took him in from a couple. According to him, Digger has never had any companion before and so far in the farm he has been fighting. I didn't want to take him as I remember that guinea pig must come in two but he persuaded me that this Digger does not need a companion and he is better off at home as I can give him attention. I did some research at work (with piggie people) and they said it was fine for him to be alone given his background.

Now I am seriously worried joining this forum! In serious discussion with husband currently.
