Litttle Toffee's lump is getting worse, it's became really huge and heavy int the last week, so we have decided to take him to the vet and have him PTS, only problem is we can't get an appointment till next week. Fell like I'm breaking my own heart here, I have 3 other guinea pigs but I don't have a bond with them quite like my bond with Toffee... Going to be a horrible few days with my little man :'( Really don't want to say goodbye just yet. 8...

(((((huge hugs))))) never an easy decision but sometimes we have to be brave enough to make it. Make the most of the time you have left and spend lots of time with him cuddling if he likes that. So very sorry. I know how difficult this time of preemptive mourning can be, try and focus on him here and now and not what's to come. :laluot_29::laluot_29::laluot_29:

Huge hugs to you, I know how you are feeling we knew we had to have one of our first piggies PTS for 2 weeks before she let us know she'd had enough and it was a very heartbreaking decision to make.
You are doing the best for him that you can and you wouldn't be making this choice if it wasn't the best for Toffee.
Treasure the time you have left with him and make each day a great day for Toffee. Massive hugs to you at this difficult time x

What an awful decision you have had to make. Having made this myself I know how painful it is. I am really sorry.

Thanks everyone, it has been a really tough decision and this is the first pet I've ever had PTS so It's really getting to me, just hope the rainbow bridge is good to him

You will know when the time has come, as much as your heart is breaking - because it is the only thing left you can do for him.

It is a decision that never gets any easier, nor is seeing a piggy fade away and knowing that there is nothing more you can do. :(

All you can do is give him your love and be there for him. Piggies feel deeply, and it will go a long way.

I'm so sorry you have to make this horrid decision but you are only doing it because you care. Thinking of you and sending hugs x

Okay so a little update on the situation, at first i was abit indecisive about having Toffee PTS because he was acting normally then today I went to clean his cage out and he took a running lunge for my hand and actually drew blood! Not sure if this has anything to do with the lump but he definatly NEVER acts like this, he has never bitten me or any other human/guinea pig in his life! Perhaps this lump is starting to hurt him now or I don't know what but we have an appointment with our vet tomorrow with a long drive to Kirkliston, I am not going to tell the vet to put him to sleep, that option is only there if there is nothing else we can do and if he is suffering.

You poor thing, have a virtual hug.

It definitely sounds as if he is not feeling right, if he's bitten you. You have defo made the right decision.

HUGS

Wishing you and your boy all the best. I'm thinking of you!

Thoughts & prayers

To both you & Toffee at this difficult & sad time. Do make the most of the time you have left & maybe give him a few extra treats along the way. Perhaps take a few pics of the two of you too. We had our dog of 13 yrs put down in Sept & her last weekend I made sure she had her favourite meals, I took lots of pics & gave her huge cuddles. I now have those pics on the wall and every time I see them I smile. Be strong, lots of love, care bear & Batman (my guinea pig who is looking for his Robin) x

Unexpected news!

okay so Toffee's just HOME from his appointment with the vet, our NEW vet told us that he wasn't suffering in any way! his lump is larger than he thought but it isn't causing him any pain or discomfort, he is just an old but happy guinea pig! So the herd is all back together! Thanks everyone!

In the end, although it's probably one of the hardest decisions ever having an animal PTS, by ending their suffering you are showing them the greatest act of selflessness and love. Don't think about what is coming, just cherish the memories you have and have faith in yourself that what you are doing is the biggest, most loving thing you could do. Cuddles here from me and the girls x
