Hello all

I have recently switched to fleece bedding since making them a new c&c cage and it seems to be going well they love it.

I have a couple of querys on how often people do a complete change, if they change anything in between and if what I’m using seems ok. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I’ll note my routine so you all get an idea of any pointers I need. Only main issue I have is getting the hay of the fleece (will describe what I currently do below) and it starting to smell the day before the big change.

I have 2 male guinea pigs.
For the cage i have got puppy pads, towels and fleece. I noticed they pee alot around the edges so i put puppypads around the edges of the cage, towel on top, then 1 layer of fleece on top of that. I change this completely every 4 days and I daily clean the poops as well. The past day or 2 i put a small section of puppy pad under there favourite hide then fleece on top as they seem to pee the most here so i may change this every 2 days?
When doing a full clean i take everything out, get a small brush and brush as much of the hay as i can off the fleece. I find it awkward as its hard not to get it everywhere and also its obviously dirty. When its getting washed the left over hay is left at the end and worried it will block up my machine? I shake it all when its out before drying. Basically i find it quite awkward.
I have read about lint rollers - but where do people do this without making there house-flat a mess?

Sorry for the hugeeeee message but thought it would be useful in order for the best feedback.

Thanks

Sarah

Hi Sarah, sounds like a really good routine, great idea about pads in high use areas :) I like that. It will help keep those dry.

As for hay in washing machine get a horse bag, they are amazing and keep all the hay in and the fleece comes out really clean!

Another horse wash bag user here. They are great. I use a stiff flat hair brush to get hay and hair off the fleece.

Like you I put extra mats under their beds where they like to spend a lot of time!

They have hay trays at one end of the cage where most of their wees go. The fleece cage liners only need changing once a week at the most cos of the hay trays. The mats I shake out every day and wash when they are at all damp.

I usually brush their cage liners in the garden cos all the fluff and teeny bits of hay fly eveywhere!

I use fleece zorb and fleece in a sandwhich for cage liners. Some of my liners have mattress protector as the absorbent layer cos it is cheaper than zorb.
