Poor Spice will most likely be going to the vets tommorow providing we can get an appointment.
The poor wee piggy, has got a tooth fallen out and stuck into his lip and also a wound with white stuff in. He also had white stuff around his mouth but I managed to clean it with water.

He is also seeming unintrested in everything and is not even wheeking when he has a hug which is very unlike Spicey-boy.

So tonight he shall spend the night in the spare cage.

Any ideas of what I should put in with him to try and tempt him with food. And can I mash the pellets in water and see if he will eat that?

While I am at it, what sort of questions should I ask the vet. Never been to one on my own before and well, AS and new does not go.

I would recommend you start syringe feeding him mashed pellets tonight, then get him some either science recovery or oxbow critical care from the vets for the rest of the time.

you could try him with anything easy to eat, cucumber maybe, or some herbs?

Hi
I'm sorry to hear Spice isn't well. If all else fails with food a hand full of grass should tempt him. It usually works. This will keep him happy enough until you can get him to the vets tomorrow.

You've done the right thing by cleaning his mouth. Just making him as comfortable as possible makes a difference.

Don't worry yourself with preparing questions for the vet, any good vet will talk through with you the problems Spice is having and why.

I hope it goes ok tomorrow, keep us all updated.

Agree with the above - critical care and soft fruit/veg. Grated carrot used to interest my piggie. Veg/fruit high in water content would be good like kiwi, melon, etc. If he isn't drinking much because his lip is sore syringe water as often as possible so he doesn't get dehydrated. Hope the visit at the vets goes well.

I'm so sorry to hear Spice isnt well. Yes it would be worth mushing up some pellets and syringe feeding him. Also grated carrot would be good. I am sure if you explain what the problem you will get an appointment tomorrow. Most vets will fit you in even if they are fully booked if you explain that he isn't eating. Let us know how you get on.

We have an appointment at 3pm.

I tried to get master spice to eat some kale, his favourite but he couldn't eat it so he has had some mashed pellets of the end of a spoon, some blitzed veggies of the end of a spoon, and some water out of a straw so i can help him drink. he cannot manage the water bottle on his own. And I do not have syringes

We are back

Spice has had the part of his tooth that had gone into and then through his gum removed.
He also has an infection in his mouth poor wee piggy so he is on antibiotics for 10 days - Septrin at 0.5ml 1 time a day till Saturday and then if need be the dose can doubled so he can have it two times a day.

I have given him his first dose and he fought it. Although it is mashed banana.

aw that is good, its nice to hear he is more comfortable now and the antibiotics will fight the infection.

poor little mite, he deserves a good old rest after all of that! lots of kisses and cuddles on the cards tonight I'm guessing!:))

Fingers crossed that the antibiotics work and he is back to his usual self soon xx

I hope Spice is feeling much better soon. I have to say I think it seems rather a small dose of septrin though. How heavy is Spice?

Just collaborated on my scales Spice is a small pig he is currently at 750 grams. We are back at the vets Sat am but I think that he was worried incase spice should experience side effects.

Oh in that case it probably is about right, but maybe it will be worth giving twice a day as long as no side effects. I've always found septrin to be really good and tolerated well.

I
m sorry to hear about this keep him warm and comfy good luck at the vets x

I'm feeding him mashed pellets and he is taking that ok, I'm going to order him some other stuff from thistle cavies while i am here and have the internet tonight

Just been back to the vets for the follow up appt.

Spicey has to remain on Septrin till next Friday and we see the vet again then.
His weight is continuing to drop so continue to syringe feed critical care and bio-lapis

Spice and I have a second follow up appt at the vets tommorow.

He still needs syringing liquid but he will happily sit on me and take a drink from a syringe.
He needs feeding up a bit, I have just seen if he can maintain his own weight without feeding but he can't. He is happy. But will just sit in a corner until his brother chases him around.

So he is getting there. And is happy and trying to eat on his own. I have seen him raid the food bowl. But he still needs supplementary feeding with critical care

been back to the vets. Poor wee spice now has a mite overgrowth on top of everything.
So he's had xeno 450 and another dose in 2 weeks yesterday.

CArry on with the AB until it is finished.
And he has gained some weight :))

awwwwww that's great that he's gained weight wooooooooooooo hooooooooooooooo sorry to hear tho that he has mites grrrrgrrrrgrrrr
all paws crossed that the little guy starts to eat by himself again soon and those horrible mited go away real soon x>>x>>x>>x>>x>>

oh I'm glad to hear Spice has put on some weight!

sorry to hear about the mites, hes a fighter and will get through it!

:)

I'm sorry that Spice is still having a tough time. Hope he's better soon and keep up the good work x

Poor spice is still not doing very well.

On the good news he is still very happy and he is wheeking again.
He is also appearing to be alot less itchy and will not squeal when i stroke his back. His toof is also appearing to grow back straight and his wound in his lip is healing nicely

In the bad news on his own he cannot maintain his body weight on his own so requires spoon feeding. He enjoys it so I do not have to fight to get anything into his mouth. He just sits in his corner of the cage looking unhappy. I think it may be due to lack of energy. Unless Blaze chases him.
He is being a little sweetie though. I am sure he enjoys the time he is spending with his mummy as when he has a hug he looks his usual cheeky self.
Antibiotics should finish soon.
