I popped into Pets at home this morning to pick up some hay and some dog food and I always look at the adoption section and 'aww' at the baby guinea pigs.

I wandered over to the adoption section and I gasped at the size of a 3 year old male guinea pig that was up for rehoming. This was the biggest guinea pig I have ever seen in my whole life!

He was a light gray in colour with dark flecks and he was massive! Now ive heard of cuy and I'm not 100% sure if he was part cuy or a guinea pig that was just gigantic. Not sure of the possibilities of a cuy in rural Hertfordshire but who knows.

My 4 girls are miniature compared to him and they are all the perfect weight, he must be at least triple the size of them. I wish I could have taken a picture!

I hope he finds a family who can accommodate his size and needs!

Poor thing, the cage where he was on must have been tiny!
The pets at home local to me are really really good at caring for their animals but yes the pen was small for him but its hust temporary until he finds a home.

I'm definitely one to speak up if an animal is not being cared for properly and the animals at my p@h always look healthy and the pens are clean and they always have food and veg and access to hay and water, they do a good job there. Well other than the fact of selling animals but they are looked after ;)

You dont live near me do you. I posted an exact thread a few months back about the same size pig in my local p@home! Diff colour tho however. Cuy do not normally come in that colour however so I was informed. maybe just a big lad naturally :)

I live in Hertfordshire.

I googled cuy after reading your post I think and I agree that he isnt the right colour but could be a mixed breed. Whatever he is, he is massive! Wish I had room for him, although he would be a moster compared to my girls!

The size I saw I can confidently say was the size of a meduim rabbit I had exactly the same reaction as you lol!

Definitely the size of a rabbit! I nearly fell over aha. No I dont recall him being called Stanley but who knows, they may have changed it. Did you see Stanley in the Stevenage store?

northampton store but he was gone within a week so was wondering if they moved him is all. He was tri coloured tho the one I saw! Maybe they have got cross breeds. ..who knows! I'm glad other people are starting to see this. I wasn't sure if people would believe me when I said what the size was compared to! :)

Ah right, no this one was mostly gray.

I hope there isnt a breeder out there breeding a new breed of giant guinea pigs because people will definitely be in for a shock, I can only imagine how much he would need to eat to maintain a healthy weight!

I do hope he goes to a good home with someone who knows what they are doing :)

Oh poor angel, *must not call in on the way home* *must not call in on the way home*. I really hope he finds a decent home :(

Pop in and see him for yourself, is he really a giant or are my girls small aha! But no, in all seriousness he is massive and I hope he gets a good, competent owner :)

Will try to when next in Stevenage. I did have a boar once that was 1700g but he was overweight.

I wouldn't think anyone is breeding giant Guinea Pigs or mixing Cuy. I've seen some massive males at the pet store too when it was open where I had the same reaction.

When I take my bladder pig to the vets I often get people say "Wow! Is that a giant guinea pig?" She weighs 1.45kg & does make other pigs look weeny

20140619_123846.webp 20140619_123838.webp 20140619_123842.webp I had to pop back and show my boyfriend the giant guinea pig because he didn't believe me but he agreed that he was much larger than my 4 girls.

His name is Gizmo and apparently he was left outside the store in a box with his brother :(

I got him out and held him and he looks healthy and is definitely well fed. If only I had room!

Glad he has a friend. He just looks a bit chunky to me too. Not massive.
