gilbert likes eating newspaper..

gilbert is EATING newspaper. he hasn't done this before. he has gone under newspaper, teared it apart but NEVER ate it before. he eats it like its perfectly normal for a guinea pig to eat it. well my question is..is it normal? and should i let him? if not how should i stop him?

what is it with piggies at the mo?
My girls have decided to start eating there too........i find it in their water, in the food bowl......scattered thru the cage and i'm sure it's being digested too :p
 
mine do too, any my friend's 3 piggies eat their newspaper as well. guess we are missing a trick, must taste pretty good...
(i also heard that the ink isnt harmful to them, it is in fact good for their coats! super shiny pigs ahoy!)
 
Frankly, I'd rather they eat newspaper or cardboard than wall paper, plastic bags, or cables!
If you want you can tie a ribbon to the bar/mesh and let them have fun with that, so they can vent their destructive energy on something that is under control! Or put empty soap boxes in...

That's what I do with mine.

Sometimes I string it across the cage and peg veggies to it.
They really love that!
They'll be leaping about all over the place, ripping the veggies down.

They've never eaten newspaper, amazingly enough.
I switched the fleece a few weeks ago, so now they've got no chance! :<>

I'd say it's normal, though. They like to chew anything.
If you give them half the chance; they'll chew on your finger.
I just think they like to munch.
 
GILBERT CHEWS MY FINGER. and thanks everyone, i was scared gilbert would get sick with the newspaper. everytime i clean up after his floortime, there's a big chunk missing from the newspaper. it's become a hobby for him now.rolleyes
 
Yes, piggies are the original house slobs. Mine pull up their newspaper bedding and eat it. After only a few hours their lovely house looks like a tornado has hit it.

My girls eat the newspaper too and the Megazorb. In fact, they actually hunt for them to eat.

I've noticed the hamster has been eatting the megazorb too. rolleyes
