Hi my two girls Agnes and Margo have recently started doing the rumble strut at each ither at the same time with high pitched squealing and chasing each other around the cage.. Mago the smallest one keeps aggressivley humping Agnes on the face cause Agnes is rumbling strutting at Margo... sounds weird but they havent bitten or drawn blood... just noise and kicking sawdust everywhere. Any help? Do i have to seperate them? x

It sounds ok to me so far, just normal dominance behaviour. But definitely keep an eye on them. If one is being obviously bullied and shows visible relief when away from her cage mate, or they have a proper fight and draw blood, then you might have to keep them apart. But a bit of rumblestrutting and squealing (which is a submission noise) is usually fine. I have a pair of sows who get moody with each other (and their husboar!) every now and again, but they never fight and ten minutes later they'll be having a cuddle.

Husboar... love it. Thanks for the response. I will keep an eye on them. They do still sleep in the same section together which is good.... xx

If they're sleeping next to each other that's definitely good. Sounds like they're doing just fine :)

It may be a hormonal cycle in one (or both.) Guinea pig sows go into heat about once every two weeks. In some sows, this can lead to an obvious increase in dominance behaviors. This can be more noticeable some cycles than others. That high-pitched squeal sounds bad, but it's not pain, it's submission. The squealer is letting the other pig know that she acknowledges that other pig is the boss.
