Tomorrow i am getting two girl pigges :) but ive never had girls before. i was just wondering how they are different and do they get their periods and is it bad?

Girls are in season about every two weeks (usually 15-16 days). They often try to mount their companion to ease their urges; so don't be worried that you may have got a male by accident!

The dominant one can also be rather grumpy and *****y for a few days. Afterwards they will be quite cuddly with each other, once they have bonded well. The dominant sow can be a bit of a bully, especially at first, to reinforce her position.

Dominance rumbles are Ok as long there is no prolonged cattering/teeth gnashing or any other sign of high level aggression connected with it.

Have fun with your girls!

It may also go the other way, you may never know when your pig is in season. Some can get grumpy I have one who does but out of my nine she is the only one who is that way.

They don't bleed either, they are very lucky lol

Oh gosh so more grumpy girls in household, oh wow is that what i have to wait for too? eeek so we'll both be asking squillions of questions @)

The grumpy one WAS very "alpha", so it's perhaps more a personality thing.

Being in season is the time when they are fertile; it lasts about 14 hours, during 2 of them they can be impregnated. They do not have a period like we humans. Any sign of blood needs to be checked out, as it is illness related.

With girls, you should have no problem with fall-outs or fights; they can squabble a bit occasionally, but that's about it.

Whether they will cuddle up together depends on the personalites, but it's more likely with girls than boys.

My sows get REALLY grumpy when they're in season, my gosh, they're almost as bad as me :)p

Are your girls already bonded when you get them or a they new to each other?

i've always kept my girls in pairs, and apart from one who i fostered for a short time (she was hormonal all the time haha <3)they never had any problems
