amazing thank you!Looks lovely.
You just need some c&c grids to make a pen at the front.
Here is an old version of what I did with mine
(It went through many changes over the years!)
Lucky girls with that set-up!a step closer to bringing my girls to their new home sundayi would really like to attach a run area to the bottom if anyone has any suggestions?

Yes it’ll be fine
Obviously the shavings will come out through the grids if you don’t make an upstand with the correx. As you can see, that is how mine originally was - just meant a little extra sweeping!
Bricks underneath hutch so they can’t get underneath.
I made a very rough ramp by covering a c&c grid with vetbed and cable tying it on
yes no problem at all!Yes it’ll be fine

thank you!I hope your girls appreciate all your hard work.
Looks amazing.️
the pen will attach to where the doors open up too, dont worry the space by electricals are being kept free!It does look great ! Lucky girls
Will the pen attach to the sides of the hutch ? Just thinking about the electrical wires there or are they temporary ?
as you can see, the hutch is just 2 inches off the floor, i maybe wrong but i don’t think a piggle could get under there?! if you think they could, is there anything you could suggest as bricks are definitely too thick.. do you think ill need a ramp? again i thought they could just jump it but maybe not?Yes it’ll be fine

You can get something simple and cheap like a strip of plywood from a DIY store.yes no problem at all!
this hutch i really dont think they could get under, its not even big enough to put bricks under! ill have a think what i can use just incase though.. again i dont know if they will need a ramp as its so low to the ground, ill get pics tomorrow to see what you think! thats a great idea!

That should do the trick.
Yes - a piggy will get under there. I speak from bitter experience!

You can check that.i always worry about wood incase its been treated![]()
You can check that.
The other alternative is correx or similar.
I have large sheets of cheap DIY double glazing around my cage as pee spray protector and extra insulation but I’m sure it can be cut to form a border around your cage.
B&Q or Homebase are worth looking around, or Wickes
I agree - Think of a hole on a safe c&c grid, they are that size to stop piggies being able to try to get through and risk getting heads stuck
I put engineering bricks (they’re narrower) under my hutch gap which was about that size, rather than a standard house brick. My husband is a bricklayer though so I did have access to bricks more easily!
Piggies are little rascals and expert at getting where they shouldn’t !
Correx is quite cheap on Amazon but a sheet of your base material is £5.60 at Wickes
I’ve used extra as barriers to stop poops and wee travelling outside the cage
I’m looking forward to seeing your piggies in their home![]()
what does everyone think about needing a ramp from cage to floor, do the think the jump is small enough? if not, what would you use?
Personally, I’d put a ramp. It’s quite a lot way up for them to jump - yes they can probably do it but as they age it wouldn’t be good for them
As I say, I just covered a c&c grid with some vetbed but a bit of wood covered with an off cut it carpet would work
Ramps in Cages and Hutches
hmm ill see what i can do! i may not be able to give them access straight away to the run until iv fixed these bits but they should be okay in the hutch without until its all sorted shouldn’t they?
also my dad can get me some more floor coverings however they will have been used / dusty, would a quick mop and disinfectant be okay to then use to put under the hutch?
Yes they will be fine just with the hutch
Yes the floor coverings will also be fine.
As I say, the correx I have used in the cage was used for the work in my house
