Hi all, I'm new to posting on this site although I come here often to browse as a guest all the piggie info.

My daughters 4 year old male piggie has. Bulging eye. I thought it was fatty eye at first and took him to the vet who said it was conjunctivitis and prescribed drops. (about 4 weeks ago) the drops didn't help and the eye got worse so a week later we saw another vet who prescribed eye drops and anti inflammatories. A week later the eye was worse still, saw yet another vet who identified a small lump under the chin. He prescribed 2 weeks of antibiotics but explained it could be an abscess, tumour or infected ducts/glands.

2 weeks later the lump is about 4 times the size it was and the eye is potruding, sagging and very red. Gizmo has got to hav urgery on Monday. They are going to investigate the lump with a view to removing it if they can and remove the eye. 6)

Was just ordering if anyone has had similar experience, I'm soooo worried and my daughter is really upset. Gizmo is eating as well as normal and I'm getting really worried that we may have to make some horrible decisions on Monday:...

Thank you in advance for any comments. x

Sorry to hear Gizmo is poorly. Hope everything goes ok for him monday.

Have no experience but didn't just want to read and run, so bumping this up for you

I have had a few guinea pigs at the Sanctuary with bulging eyes and in each case it has been a retrobulbar abscess. It does sound like you could be dealing with two abscesses here. What antibiotic is your piggie on? Where about are you based? You really are going to need a guinea pig savvy vet to deal with this. I would like to add that the piggies we have dealt with here have all made a good recovery but it's taken time, and the correct treatment.
