my new guinea pig is very active and the problem is that he bitten me twice and I'm very suprised cause tomcats guinea r very gentle but is the problem causehes nervous and very protective over him self cause he has never been handled before?

Yeah I'd say it's cause he isn't used to being handled. Just give him lots of love and handling and he will get used to it and enjoy and wil become very tame and friendly :) My boy guinea pig was very nervous and fretty when I first got him, hes 6 months now and tame as anything, never bites me - just licks :smitten:

Good luck with him :)

Hi jack, i should think he will calm down when he settles as he is very new still, just be paitent with him, he will get calmer

I've always found that a little of their fave food while they're on your lap is a great way to get them to trust you and a little bribery always goes a long way......

That definitely worked with Sid, I spent a lot of time hand feeding Sid and I think it made him trust me and bond with me really well :)

My little one is like that too. After 2 months he still does bite but I think I've been a little bit too tentative in my approach because he was so little.

On another thread someone mention picking up less tame pigs with a towel and wrapping them up. For the last 2 nights I've done this with Spike and he doesn't wriggle or try to bite half as much! It's meant he has had some quality time on my knee and the towel still allows him to hide his head so he thinks I can't see him!

It's started to work for me so maybe it could help for your little one.

Riff Raff was dreadful like that when a baby. You just have to persevere with it. You could wrap him in a towel - this could comfort him. Good luck.

Lots of patience and always have a little treat so he knows that those hands coming towards him are gentle hands that have yummies for him :)
