I went to my boyfriends friday to today (monday) i do leave gizmo at home he did use to come with me but he stays at home alot now. But i came home this morning with his food barely touched his hay barely touched and him not really bothered about moving around when i pick him up he usually squeals and runs around bless him but this time he didnt even try to escape his breathing looks rapid so i tried to listen to his chest but couldnt hear anything but him scraping his teeth he is drinking which is good cause i know he not dehydrating but i dont get whats wrong cause hes always been a healthy happy piggy, also we got him out last tuesday and noticed he got a flap of skin under his chin like a double chin sort of thing i dont know where thats come from either cause i never over feed up or anything. Any advice would be great.
Thank you

Is he left at home all alone all of that time?

NOO my parents are here my mum feeds him when he has ran out of food and stuff but she not had to this weekend cause him not touching his food but he never use to come with me to my bf so he is use to being on his own well not fully i mean without me but no he never on his actual own

He needs to see a vet straight away, this is an emergency. Have you got a good vet you trust to know all about piggies?

He may have missed the company and got depressed, but i do think you should take him to the vets ASAP, they go downhill so quickly and their bodies and digestive systems pack up with no food especially for that length of time, he will probably need something to get his gut moving again, also his teeth will overgrow without hay and dry food, it could even be that his teeth may be overgrown so he can't eat, it could be any number of things but if i were you i would rush him to the vets. 3 days is a long time without food or hay. good luck x

As soon as you noticed the flap of skin he needed vet treatment. There is a guinea pig on the forum that died due to that as it is the sign of a very serious condition. You need to get Gizmo to a vet right away.

Dont ask to book appointment ask to bring him in straight away this is an emergency and cannot wait. x

The flap of skin in nothing as most guinea pigs do get them and only to worry if a lump performs but there isnt a lump with gizmo which is good I'm to keep an eye on him for a few days see if his eating habbits get back to normal if not got to go back xx

Will you be syringe feeding him as he is not eating? Please weigh him daily to monitor his weight, as i said without food and hay their digestive systems pack up - very qucikly which will kill them and their teeth will overgrow which will stop them from eating.

Good luck xx

he is nibbling away at bits but i do sit there and help hand feed him ill never let him go without id rather stay at home all day everyday then go to work just so i can be with gizmo i adore him makes me cry everytime he not well... i cried on way to work yesterday he gets lots of cuddles =)... thank you xx

No worries, i hope you haven't taken offence to my comments or think i think your not trying your best i know you are sweetie. I just re-read my posts and thought i must come across as a right cow :))

Aww no course i dont hun... your just trying to help me unlike alot of people id rather you sound bossy (your not by the way just saying) lol then not help me at all they were going to refer him to some tropical person which is higher then vets but then he got better but he not gizmo at minute so ill give it a few more days like they said then take him back xx

I know this doesnt really help your situation but i have 2 gp's called sugar and spice too! : P

One of my sows has a flap of skin under her chin, like a double chin. She's had it for about 5 months so I don't think that is anything to worry about. I hope Gizmo is feeling better :)

Had gizmo out last night he seemed ok but he pooed alot whilest out and they were reallllllly BIG ive woken up this morning and hes just laid there so i will be taking him back to vets as I'm not happy with him he did seem fine last night but he made a noise everytime he pooed and it not normal surely so I'm getting him sorted

Oh dear, making noises when weeing and pooing isn't a good sign, this could be the answer to him not eating, other than big how were his poo's, soft? was there any blood? Have him out on a white towel till he wee's too, after a few mins if the wee turns orange he needs to see a vet. xx

His wee's look ok hun i had him out last night his poos arnt diaharria (how ever you spell it) but are soft i cant see any blood in it though I'm wondering if he has been constipated and its coming out of him now he has had a urine inection before but his wee does look ok... he seemed quite cheerful last night when we had him out very happy and running around but this morning he looks sad again i think he misses my boyfriend cause he cheers up when he is about like there nothing wrong with him =/

I think it would be best to get him checked by the vet if he is making noises when going to the toilet, try to get a urine sample to take with you for them to test, he could have bladder stones, it would be good to find the cause for his not eating. Good luck xx

They xrayed him back in march i think it was thinking bladder stones but couldnt find anything his stomach is all hard like bloated like we do but I'm finishing early tomorrow to get him checked out and sorted thanks hun xx

when you tap it does it sound hollow? Have a search on bloat, i dont know much about it and whether you should feed veggies or not, try massaging him or taking him for a run in the car to try and relieve some of the gas, he must be very uncomfortable. I hope the vets can find the cause to all this, they are so precious xx

Just googled there are plenty of reasons so i think I'm just going to take him vets tomorrow so much easier they will tell straight away whats wrong I'm so worried cause i dont want to lose him he my baby =( xx

How has his eating and drinking beeen has he been having plenty of hay? What has his weight been like? xx

If you tap his tummy gently on the side & it sounds hollow, it could be bloat & is a medical emergency, he needs to see a vet quickly. Is he moving around or sitting quietly all fluffed up?

His eating and drinking he always has fresh food and hay and he has a carrot once a week or if he hears me russeling a bag he goes mad so i give him a treat then... he is drinking plently well was i filled his bottle up last night but its not moved... hes not fluffed up he is sitting around but he does move from one end to the other for food and drink... but what i dont get he was perfect last night when my fella stayed over now he not here hes gone down again its,not like he sees him alot so i dont get it xx

His weight has plumpted from 1170g to 1370g in 1 month so he has put on ALOT of weight since i last weighed him xx

How old is he hun? And when was the last time you weighed him? That does seem a big gain, which again could be something to worry about, but if he is still growing then maybe not. When is the vets app?
