Ok daft question - if a Guinea pig bangs their head would it swell like a human? I have just noticed a small lump on Gladys head above her eye - not on her eye but above it more on her head.... Am wondering if its related to her funny turn about 4 weeks ago now... it defo wasn't there this morning... Going to check her again later, eating at the moment then looks like a trip to the vets...

I am very sorry for your ongoing worries. However I think that the time lapse is likely a bit too long for a swelling or bruise from the funny turn.

You are right... I am now over thinking it and imagine her brain is swelling.... I need to stop imagining the worst.... other half said 'well she doesnt look ill ' 🙄 no hope there!

It's easy to panic about these things only us slaves understand. Btw that's just the kind of thing my OH would have said!

Not sure what to do.... do I wait and see if it goes down? Or just get it checked? The vets near me isn't specifically knowledga le on guinea pigs but she did know quite a bit when I took her a few weeks ago...

@artcasper I'd take her to get it checked. It could be a cyst or just a fatty lump.

Although they may not be life threatening if a pig gets a lump on their face or head I tend to get it checked quite quickly. I do this because of how small their heads are. If it does need to be removed they don't have a lot of skin so it needs to go when it's small.

Off to the vets at 11.15am... best to get her checked... i won't settle until it's checked

up-date... saw a lovely vet... seemed to know quite a bit about pigs... he looked in Gladys ear and could see nothing visible for the outer ear. heart etc ok. she would not let him into her mouth as he wanted to check her teeth.... So, she is currently waiting at the vets for X-rays.. she has to be put under as he said that would be best to get the X-rays they need ... left her with her fleece and little house and took her some of her hay in... hoping she gets through the anaesthetic ok... can't stop bloody crying!

Hope it's nothing to worry about. Are they going to sedate her with gas as they shouldn't need to give her GA for an X-ray?

He said anaesthetic so I just assumed she would be put under.. feel dumb now for not checking..

I know it's hard, but try not to worry. Maybe to put you at ease you could ring and check how they are going to sedate her? They might try and do the X-ray first without sedation/ GA.

Heartbroken right now as Gladys has passed over the Rainbow Bridge.

She had a very large tumour and the vet said there would be no treatment because of where and how it was attached.

Loved that little pig with all my heart x

I am so very sorry for your loss.
I lost Keziah in a similar way and it is shattering.
Hold on to the knowledge that she died without knowing anything about it and that she was loved.
Grieve now and allow yourself time.
Be gentle with yourself

Oh no how horrible for you all ! I'm so so sorry for your loss. I hope you can take some comfort in the fact she was her normal self right to the end, felt no pain or prolonged suffering.xx

I know you did. Your love for her shone through in your posts. And you’ve done the best thing for her. Take comfort in that you prevented her suffering. Hugs xx
