You came from P@H on Sunday 24th July, an impulse buy probably against our better judgement but we couldn't leave you.

Here you were on the very first day you came home with us.

Originally named Betty for the whole of an hour until your Grandma decided she didn't like it. From then on you became Gladys. For little over a week you lived a happy life, charging around with Rita waiting until you'd got over your quarantine period before being bonded with Maisie and Peaches.

You were a shy little thing and loved to climb up peoples bodies, hide in their hair or attempt to sit on their head.

Last Sunday you seemed a bit off but by Tuesday it became clear you were really very ill. We rushed you to the emergency vets to be told you had a middle ear infection. Since then you improved and then went back to deteriorating.

In the past 24hours you've spent your time traveling to and from and eventually to again the vets before making a journey to rainbow bridge. I'm so sorry I failed you little girl, I tried everything I could but the vets just didn't know what was wrong with you. The only way they could find out was to put you under GA, the GA that killed you. They said your ears were full of puss on both sides and that the infection was quite severe. Maybe I should have insisted that they just tried a different type of antibiotics or continue with the baytril for a while longer but I trusted them. At least if I had, you'd still be here.

My heart feels like it's breaking in two. I didn't even say goodbye properly, I just stroked you on the head and walked out. If only I had known that it was the last time I'd see you, hear you mutter away to me. I tried my best, I honestly did. Me, Rita, Maisie and Peaches will miss you so much little girl.

Popcorn to your hearts content little girl, mummy loves you. x

Oh no - not Gladys 8...
Damn these bloody inflictions they suffer with :o Why oh why ?/
I'm so very sorry she didn't make it - we all hoped it was something that could be treated and she would recover.
So very sad :(
Run gently free forever tiny Gladys at the bridge where others will guide you x>>
Hugs to you sweetie - really cannot believe I'm reading this ?/

Heartbreaking. R.I.P Gladys.x

So sorry to read this sad news. Please don't be hard on yourself, you did everything right and that you could for your beautiful girl. *Hugs*

RIP Gladys
x x

I know this is not the right time, sorry, but P@H do not have a great reputation with animals (the one by me is actually quite good but I won't go in as I get upset. All of the good staff have gone and only youngsters working there now :o)
Please inform them of this awful experience and the least they can do is pay the vets bills - no comfort to you I know but I have read numerous posts on here about people buying sick animals from them :0 Some members have been reimbursed in full, would also write to their head office. P@H should not sell livestock especially if the staff cannot recognise symptoms, it's only 10 days since you had her...god bless her little soul :0
There is a thread on here somewhere, see if I can dig it out for you.

Oh no! I am so sorry for your loss! You gave her so much in her short time with you. You did everything you possibly could for her. RIP sweet girl x

No I do fully know that and don't worry I have already been on the phone to them (and kicked up a fuss instore). I wouldn't recommend anyone to get animals from there usually but I went against my own advice on a whim. Very foolish and has caused nothing but heartache. The store are refunding me the full £200 that ive spent so far, although I'd gladly pay more than that to have my girl back. Shows that you should never go against your morals/gut instinct.

Thankyou everyone though the well wishes have been very soothing in this horrible time. Just sat in the car going to get her body now, this is going to be so hard :(

I am very sorry that you have lost Gladys so soon - but at least she had all the tlc she could wish for from you!

Sadly, ear infections can and do kill.

RIP Gladys - popcorn free!

Not foolish at all sweetie - you let her feel what love was even if only for a little time. I can't go into shops that sell livestock because I would have to buy them all or would be ranting until I got arrested.
My thoughts are with you - Gladys had made her presence known on the forum and members always try to comfort each other with a few words at these dreadful times :(

so sorry to here of your loss. I too have left a pig at the vets without saying goodbye only to have him die there later that day (he had a tumour removed from his back and lost too much blood during the op). BIG HUG

I'm soooo sorr that Gladys has gone8...8...

I know you tried everything so please don't beat yourself up about this. There are always what ifs and maybes but only in hindsight. You did what you felt was right at the time because you trusted professionals and had the very best interests fo your piggy at heart.

If anyone should feel guilty it is the breeder who supplied P@H with a sickly piggy. An infection as deep rooted as this could only have come from poor conditions at the breeder. Like my Biscuit's strep intermedius which he barely survived and has left him constantly susceptible, infections from an early age are sooo difficult to spot, treat and overcome.

You did your best and so did your vet. In the end, poor Gladys had been through too much too young to be strong enough for a GA.

My heart goes out to you, I'm sooo sorry we couldn't help you and Gladys more.

So very sorry that Gladys has gone, I have to admit the tears have fallen reading her story. Run free little one. x
