Why are they better than plastic bottles? I have to replace my bottles every few months, would a glass bottle last much longer?

I have never even seen glass bottles. I have plastic ones and they last me ages. Maybe you should try a different make?

I didn't know there were different makes :)) I just get the plastic bottles with the red tops that have Bunny Classic written on them.

My girls wouldn't drink much but when i switched to glass they now do! The benefits i've noticed are: it has a bigger spout, and two ball bearings, the glass keeps the water cooler and i think it will last longer :)

I just had a thought. If your piggies live outside the glass bottles can freeze and crack!

i have bought the glass ones and am now switching to the red topped bunny classics as I find the glass ones leak as well, I think it is just a case in keeping an eye on the bottles and keeping them topped up each day. Another thought also is that the glass ones are quite noisy when the ball bearing moves during the piggy drinking which can be a pain during the night if the pigs are in the same room. Just thought I would mention this.

That is a good point, it is noisy but my piggies are in the front room so it doesn't matter so much for me. I have heard others say that theirs leaked but mine doesn't leak at all :{mallethead sorry that's just more confusing!

Thank you :) My guinea-pigs are outside so the noise wouldn't be a problem, but maybe I'll stick with the plastic bottles for the winter because I wouldn't want the glass bottle to crack.

you can get bottle covers to stop the water freezing in them, i have recently changed to the glass bottles as i read on a thread on here that if you have a piggy with bladder stones or other urinary problems, they can get a bigger "gulp" each time from these, so they are beneficial, mine are cetainly emptying it quicker than from their old plastic one

Piggyfan you just read my mind! I think if mine lived inside I may consider it but even with bottle covers I wouldn't want to use glass ones outside. I currently have 2 plastic bunny classic ones, one is yellow and quite big as it was used for the bunny. The other is red and much smaller and came with them. The red one is on the upstairs level and they use it all the time. They don't seem to use the yellow one in their garden level :(|)

I prefer glass bottle and so do my piggies they drink more from them:)

Also plastic bottle leach out chemicals from the plastic as the bottle ages apparently like water bottles we drink from as they age

Bottles for animals are made to a different standard and do not leak chemicals with age.

The only time I have had to replace my plastic water bottle is when my pigs chewed the bit around the spout and the whole bottle emptied out into there cage!
Apart from that I have never had a problem with plastic bottles.

Ive heard good things about these too for flushing the bladder out, but have heard they leak a lot :/

Those if you that haven't had the leaking problem, where did you buy your bottles?

Ditto. I have recently bought a glass one and am so far really impressed. Little Pig hardly drinks at all from the plastic ones, but seems to love the glass bottle. It did leak a little when it was first attached, but once the seal formed it was fine. It can also go in the dishwasher! One thing to point out though, I was surprised by how big and heavy it was. I bought mine from Amazon (the seller delivered it quickly, but packaged it really badly - just lose in a box):

I have also seen them for sale in my local pet shop and online at the dreaded p@h.

Hi all,

i got my glass water bottle from Pets Corner, it is made by super pet and has a double ball bearing action - the inner "ball" being a little yellow duck lol!. does leak a little but they do seem to get more water from it and it does seem overall a good make. To be honest every plastic bottle i had for my rabbit and the various ones already gone through in the last few months for the pigs has either really leaked badly or just not let them get enough water from it.
I would recommend this one :)

yes got ours from amazon, with a little floating duck inside! have seen them in a place called swallow aquatics, think these are a chain( watch it though as they also sell small furries! ) but the bottles were about £8 in there, had a little floating carrot in that one!cheaper off amazon, mine doe snt leak, but you have to fill it right to the very top.

I recently bought a living world glass bottle for my two, I was sick of having to buy new plastic water bottles that wouldn't leak when you first got them but several months later would start to. So far i'm really impressed with the glass one. Before I put it in their cage I filled it up and hung it and water did run out of it but since then it never has, I think it need to form a seal or something or other? I would recommend getting one :) (Mine has a plastic carrot in it:)))

I have a Super Pet one and a Living World one - never had a problem with leaking but you have to make sure they are filled to the brim which helps create a vacuum.
Mine definitely drink more from the glass bottles than they did with plastic.

I love my glass bottle, piggy in room at night and noise does not concern me. No problems with it leaking either. I find the glass easier to keep clean as plastic ones tended to get scratched and look dirty.

Amy .x.

I've recently switched to glass bottles. I've not had any problems with leaks, and I actually think they're quieter! Infact I know they are as my pigs are RIGHT next to my bed (literally - their cage is up against my bed!).

Now... Where can I get a tiny glass water bottle for Peanut the Hamster, who is currently biting the life out of her bottle spout rolleyes

I find the leakage from glass bottles more so than others. I have just got 'sippys' for the cages to see if that cuts down on leakage.....
