I dont normally buy wilko's hay as i buy bigger bales, but i was running low and bought a bag to tide me over this weekend just gone. Last night whilst giving the piggy's some fresh hay, a piece of glass fell in the cage from the handful i had, so after thoroughly checking the rest of the handful i placed it in the cage and picked the glass out, its very sharp around the edges and could have caused serious harm if the piggy's had of stood or laid on it, and i dread to think what would happen if they tried to eat it.

I have contacted Wilko's to say i am not happy. I will let you know what they say.

I know hay is a wild product and these things happen, but it just shows the poor quality control.

So just a reminder to be vigilant.

xx

That is shocking, so glad no pig was harmed, made me go all cold just thinking about it... x

I always check my hay these days after a friend found a dead mouse in his rabbits and that was from wilkos too, i get mine from farm shop but you never know :( x

That's really bad. To echo other members, I'm glad your pigs weren't hurt! I once found a couple of squashed cans in a bag of hay from Tesco I think it was.

OMG! Glad you found it before the pigs did. I hope they compensate you and have a long, hard look at their quality control.

Glad they are ok. I always transfer my hay into something else before the piggies get their paws on it. My last bag of Dust Free Hay has some stinging nettles in it which I found when I went to grab a handful. Spent quite a while picking it all out!

Omg Thank you so much for making me aware of this as I was planning to go out and buy some hay from wilko tomorrow if it is on offer! I will be on the lookout for any foreign nasties now :)

Are you kidding me! That's horrendous, I was sickened by the story of the dead bird found in a bag of tesco salad leaves, now I can add that to my list lol. I don't trust tesco for anything pet related. Mainly price related ha x

I found half a screw in p@h hay before, and I more often find feathers and bits of twine. All hay I pull out the bag now gets pulled open like cats cradle before I put it in the cage so spikey bits and dust can fall out first. It's habit.

No response yet.....

They *** be hearing from me again tomorrow if i dont get a response.

So glad piggies are ok. I have had Wilkinson hay before and been fine (only got it once tho) but I once got a large wood fragment (it was more l I keep a spear lol) in a bag of wood shavings from my local pet shop, not my local now as found a closer, better one x hope you get a response soon xx

Keep on their backs Toffeewoffee! I didn't buy meadow hay from there in the end (in the past I've bought in bulk when they have had it on offer at £1.75) but I did buy some timothy hay for them. Thanks to a thread on here I've now ordered 9.5kg of ings hay and 9.5kg of timothy/rye hay for £32 delivered from hayforpets, I thought that was quite good value for a highly recommended product. I worked it out and it's only 16p more per kilo than the stuff from wilkinsons!

I had a response today asking for the bar code and catch number which i have provided and they have also asked for my address and will write to be in due course - hopefully with a big old voucher inside :))

I guess this is the danger with people walking through fields and just disposing of their rubbish on land as they please, without a thought to where the grass or crop is going to end up. It's no excuse for it not being picked up during the packing process either x

This morning I had Misty upside down in the cage, trying to dislodge a twig she had wedged in her mouth. It must have come in the hay and she tried to eat it. It fell out and it wasn't long but it was thick and it must have been painful being stuck. I shake the hay out before it goes in the cage but this one slipped past. She was squealing till it came out, then she just ran off to eat breakfast and it dosen't seem to have done any damage. I'm checking every bit they have now, never know what's going to be in there.

Aw that sounds nasty kenzo! Hope she's okay now :) my hay arrived today from hayforpets, it's still bagged up but but omg that sweet smell keeps wafting through, it's lovely and green too. I got a huge bag of ings (approx 9kg) and a huge bag of timothy/rye (approx 9kg) for £16 each. So happy and excellent value x
