Glucosamine For Bladder Problems

I have to start work in a mo so will be back at lunch and have a look. Have only ever used the brands I linked to in your other thread though and it's the OH who mixes ours up so I may need reminding on the ratios.

I will ask him tonight but may not be until late as I have Physio after work. Our tablets are half the size though, so will need to adjust it slightly. We also dose at 250mg a day and not 125mg. The tablets themselves do seem ok, I can't see any calcium carbonate in them and they are dairy free.
 
Hi, slight hijack of the thread here (hope you don't mind) but just a quick question. Rosie had a bladder stone removal at easter and has been on nutracys+ one a day since then. She's having problems again with bloody urine , squeaking when weeing etc although it seems to be improving with treatment. I asked the vet about upping the dose of the capsules but she said no point but reading these posts (in your opinion) would it be worth changing to something like this or stick with the nutracys which also has other properties to it. Thanks
 
The Nutracys is similar I think but I believe it also has Quercetin in it which is good for inflammation too. I was using separate Quercetin tablets with my late Phoebe. I also find dosing at 250mg of Glucosamine is much more effective, but you would need to make your own mind up on that and also check how many mg are in each Nutracys dose. Amy has been on 250mg for Glucosamine for almost 2 years I think and is virtually symptom free with her IC.

I checked about how to mix, the tablets you linked to are 1500mg, Ross says put 1 tablet in 12ml of water and a 125mg dose would be 1ml daily. Keep the rest in the fridge.
 
There's 130mg in the nutracys but because of Rosie's health I would be tempted but I'm not sure how beneficial the other ingredients are to her. I might give them a go We really have nothing to lose at the moment. Can I ask what tabs/caps you use to give the 250mg dose.

Thanks Helen (and Ross) - this is just what I needed. My fridge seems full of strange liquids for piggies so might as well add to it.....

I am completely in the same position except with a boar - he had a bladder op at the end of April and has been thriving since but then this week signs of pain and pink wees. Gutted. have been doing water filtering, barley water, low calcium veg etc etc. vet in the morning but will try the glucosamine also. Healing vibes for Rosie and pinot grigio for us slaves I think!
 
When she had her last consult the vet suggested cranberry juice. She has it diluted when she has her critical care. She really likes it so I am able to get in about an additional 30mls of fluid into her which can only be good. The vet also told me to ease off of the grass as it contains quite a bit of calcium so much to the pigs disgust it's no grass just boring old lettuce and cucumber. As for me I'm enjoying a glass of cider. Fingers and paws crossed for your little man xx

I use these ones, we have recently switched to them as the old brand changed the recipe and added calcium carbonate.

The mg are different again on these ones, as they are 500mg I think, so Amy basically has half a tablet a day.
 
Thanks for that link, I will order some tomorrow. So basically 1/2 tablet crushed down and given daily.? I'm guessing it doesn't interact with any regular medication she's on- septrin and metacam? Many Thanks x
 
No it shouldn't affect any other medication. Ross has just said he mixes 1 tablet in 4 ml of water and she gets 2ml a day, I think it works out too thick if done as 1ml.
 
Helen, quick question concerning the dosage of the glucosamine. I have the tabs that you use do I increase the dosage slowly until Rosie is having 250mg daily or do I just give her the 250mg straight away. At the moment she is on nutracys which contains 130mg. Thanks Caroline
 
I would start on 125mg and work up slowly over about 2 weeks. I think that's what I did though it was a couple of years ago now.
 
My piggy had a bladder stone in the cavity between the bladder and exit. I have not given her medication. What is the glucosamine for? My piggy had her op to remove it nearly two years ago. Since she has only drank bottled water with very low calcium and a low calcium veg diet and we have had no other problems.
I guess the bottled water sounds extreme but we live in a high calcium area and I did not trust filtering.
 
It's to help prevent inflammation of the bladder wall.
