Are the oxbow glucoasmine tablets any good for cystitis. I'm thinking it might help dot with her bladder wall problem. I have a whole pack left from my old arthiritis pig. Might give them a go

Is Dot having check ups with Simon Maddock ?

am tagging @helen105281 as I feel that she is the best person to advise about glucosamine .

I have a guinea pig who has IC problems and he is on Cystophan and a low dose of Metacam - he has 6 monthly check ups at my specialist vet

simon said bring her back in a month if she gets worse. Shes not getting better or worse. Just staying the same. She grazes a bit then lays down in discomfort. Strains to poo still. The blood has stopped in her wee though.

Simon said she could have cystitis. He found a lump on her bladder wall. But couldnt tell what it is without doing an operation. It is quite high up in her bladder and he will have to get past alot to get to it. Risky stuff. I wish i got a pic of the xray.

If i dont do her syringe feeds she does eat by herself. I tried leaving her off syringe feed yesterday and she did ok. I have to gk back to work tomorrow. Bit worried

I understand it's a worry - but Simon is one of the best Guinea Pig vets around , I wouldn't start Glucosamine until you've got a confirmed diagnosis of cystitis .

Ok. It cant hurt her anyway though can it? Why he couldnt have taken a urine sample in the first place i do not know. She was in the vets from 9am til 7pm . He said her bladder was empty so he couldnt get any urine. I just cant keep making seperate vet visits and getting charged £25 a time. All the consultations are chipping away at money i could use if anything worse happens. I am honestly getting pretty annoyed all this. Its getting over complicated

Yea i agree he is a brilliant vet for guinea pigs. And so is kim. But they are way to small and stacked out with work because no other vets deal with guinea pigs.

@Skypipdot Speaking to Kim she prefers you to take a sample in if you can. Because if they have to express the urine themselves through palpatating the bladder it can cause irritation and blood to appear in the results. Also if there's not much urine in the bladder it can hurt the pig if they try too hard to get urine out.

My past pig Anselmo had frequent urine tests done by Kim or Simon during his time being treated by them.

Ok thanks. Sorry I'm just getti g frustrated with all this.

I understand @Skypipdot but alot of illnesses are difficult to diagnose, or to treat completely. Sometimes its just about getting the right combination of medications to control what's happening. It's the same with human medicine unfortunately.

See if you can get a urine sample to the vet at some point soon and hopefully it'll bring you a step closer to getting Dot on the right combo of meds.

I will soon hopefuly. Its the money at the moment

They're not cheap pets are they! Mine like to all become ill at the same time just to make sure my bank balance plummets!
They are a nightmare. But i love them lol. How people have massive herds i do not know
