Hi

A few days a go I posted about my lovely girl Winnie who a week ago today suffered a sudden onset of bloat which after 24 hours at the vets being given critical care and medication is believed to have been caused by her on-going bladder issues.

I have started her on the Feliway Cystease capsules. 2 a day at the moment to get on top of the flare and will then reduce to 1. She is also on a high dose of metacam for a few days to see if it helps.

I know both of these things can take a while to build up, especially the Cystease.

However, Winnie doesn’t really like the feliway capsules.I have been reading on here and have come across a couple of comments mentioning “Johnson’s 4Joints” liquid 0.4ml per day for a pig over 1000g. I was wondering if this is safe to give her? If it tastes sweet, I’m hoping we might get a better result with getting her to take this.

To mention, she is on metacam, co-tamoxazole antibiotic in case it’s a case of UTI, fibreplex and critical care to get her weight up. We are introducing veg slowly after the bloat so I have been syringing water to try and keep her bladder flushing through.

She is now eating hay on her own and is DESPERATE for her fresh veg but she can’t have this at the moment and isn’t quite eating enough hay which is why I have been topping up with critical care.

Any recommendations would be most welcome. I just want her to feel more comfortable. Thank you for reading and sorry it’s a long post.

Update - I’ve just ordered Piggy Parcels Guinea Pig Pellet - Joint and Urinary Support.

Hopefully these go down better!

The piggy parcels pellets contain the daily recommended amount of glucosamine so you should not give the pellets as well as an additional glucosamine supplement - pick one only and as you have ordered the pellets and she doesn’t like the delay anyway then I would just give the pellets (when you get them and not buy the 4joints

Thank you, that’s what I was planning to do but thank you for confirming. We’ll continue with the capsules until the pellets arrive and will then switch over. Thank you for your quick reply
