How do you prevent yourself from bringing home every piggy that needs rescuing .

I just saw post for a 5 year old boar.... has lived his entire life alone in this itty bitty Petco cage. I WANT HIM. I NEED HIM.

But I own three girls already!

UGHHHHH :help:

I have 5 but signed up for 2 as Velvet had 3 on board when I bought her. Five is definitely my limit!

See the struggle I am having right now, is that I REALLY could probably do 5, max.
Seeing as this is an older boy though, I would then have to find him a mate, build another c & c cage, take them both to the vet for check overs, and pray that nothing goes wrong in the mean time. I want to do It, I could probably do It, but I have a voice in my head that’s saying I shouldn’t.

I feel this way with rats more. Especially older rats who are unlikely to find a new home due to them statistically being likely to die of “old age” some months later.
But then saying that...the shorter lifespan just makes it harder to say “no”.

Yep I hear you, there was a pair of old girls at our local rescue. I made the mistake of posting on FB that the person who commented wasn’t alone in them not calling when rescues came in despite having a form in I was never called (because of biscuit I never withdrew my application form) they then replied and I ended up saying biscuit was taking my time but if they couldn’t find these oldies a home to call me -I could possibly do 5 max but having mostly oldies with vets bills! Erm no.....

You could always have him neutered and living near your sows til six weeks post op. Just saying ...

My fear with that is that he is in his elder years, so surgeries can be a little riskier - along with not knowing his health / diet, I don’t know if he has 3 months left, or 3 years.

Life is too short- if you believe you can manage to look after him properly then go for it
If you are sure you can take on another and give him the time, the love and the care that he needs then do so. Think very carefully beforehand though as it is a serious commitment you are taking on.
