Hello everyone, I'm Charlotte and am new here. I did have lots of pig related questions but luckily most of them have been answered on here already so thanks.
I was just wondering what the rest of you did when you went on holiday. Do you ask friends or neighbours or do you use pet sitters for your guinea pigs? Last time I went away I asked a neighbour. I was only away for a few days and left lots of instructions about how to care for my 4 guinea pigs and think she probably thought I was a bit crazy but she did become quite fond of them apparently.
I am going away for 2 weeks in june and can't help hoping I can find someone who will love and care for them as much as I do. What do you all do? Maybe you know someone in the Sittingbourne/Kent area who does guinea pig sitting.
Thanks

Normally my dad looks after them. He is more fond of them than I am I think! He looks after them well, but does things differently from me so really you need to expect that from whoever looks after your piggies. I'm sure there are quite a few members on here in the Kent area who will have contacts!:)

HI there and welcome from me in OZ (Australia) :)
Oh yes i had neighbours and then my folks pigsit :) and yes HEAPS of instructions, also i phoned everyday too rolleyes
I know we've got some lovely people here in your area, i'm sure somebody will advise 8:)
Glad to see you on here, you'll love it, friendly and heaps of advice as well on all sorts of stuff :)

Hi Charlotte,

When I go away, I get my mum/dad to come and feed them and play twice a day and I do the same for them when they goes away. Saying that, she has it a lot easier as I only have 4 and at the moment, mum has 11 as she's a fosterer! :))

As you're away for 2 weeks, you need to make sure you will have somebody who will spend time with them and also clean them out regularly just as you would. A piggy sitter sounds like a good plan if you can find one!

Thank you both. I am already enjoying reading about everyones pigs and the advice on here is great

Unfortunatley we dont have anyone to look after our piggies, so we wont be going on holiday for years! We went away about 4 years ago to Liverpool for the Beatles weekend, but that was it!

Maybe we should do the house swap system? lol. "Free holiday accommodation available in the beautiful Vale of Glamorgan" in return for.... Don't suppose you fancy a fortnight in Warrington do you, with 11 pigs? x

hey I am sure it is a lovely place, though you would have to look after my 3 dogs too, one which is a little and my chinchilla and 3 fish!

We use a rescue centre to board ours at. Have done for years and years and I always know they'll be safe there. Plus the rescue centres get extra money for themselves by boarding too!

there are people on here that do boarding, so you should find someone, try the link below, hope it helps. we board ours and it gives you piece of mind to know they are with people who know what they are doing in case of a problem.

Thanks this has been very helpful. Looks like a good one near me in Maidstone so will e-mail them now.

we always had our next door neighbour to look after ours - or my nan.

now my rents will do it or my sisters or friends, failing any of those options, i have Sandra (caviesgalore) down the road and she has a piggie hotel! perfect for me.

have youl ooked for any of these in your area?

They all seemed too far away but now Sally gave me that link there is one quite close

My boyfriends mum looks after them when I go away anywhere. She doesn't do a bad job, and became quite fond of them last time :)

I used to have a friend do it but somehow, she changed her mind, so we had to use my in-laws for a few years. They do a good job, but the pigs are always kept in the spare room with little company. Unfortunately, Baby Finlay doesn't travel very well and Bertie got really ill last time we took them up (Scotland) so we have to find somewhere else nearby. So far, for short stays we ask a neighbour who's quite fond of them but we can't ask her to change the litter. One of my colleagues has had lots when she was young so she'll be having them next time we go away for a while (3 nights - oooh ah). As for the summer hols, we were going to use the rescue we got Fin from but I am due to give birth in August so we're not going anywhere this summer, that's that sorted. :)
