Does anyone have any views on taking guinea pigs camping? It may seem an odd Question but, we are thinking of going to the new forest over Easter and I will worry if I have to leave my babies behind! We have a huge 8 man walk in tent and obviously I will be with them at all times, they wouldn't be left in the tent if it was hot for example! they will be in there indoor enclosed cage so no other preditors would get to them! I'm more concerned about the drive, it's around 2 hrs. I'm really unsure what to do! Asking someone to come in a feed the cats is bad enough, as I don't have any family locally!
Any one have an opinion? :{

Personally i don't think i'd feel comfortable with something like this,

But i guess thats just my personal opinion, i the temperature drop from a house to a tent would maybe be a little unfair too, maybe you could board them somewhere, i know a few rescues do boarding too,

i wouldn't take them camping it could be very distressing for them so maybe ask a neighbor to check on them and feed them. oh and i hope you like the new forest ( i live here ) its really nice and picaresque with lots to do!:))

Although we take ours caravanning a tent would be a mite too cold. We keep our van moderately warm as we have my MIL who is 85 with us. Also at night the cage gets covered on three sides and top with a thick blanket which is also fire retardant and prevents drafts.

I wouldn't risk it. They wouldn't feel secure, even in a cage, with all the different noises etc. And there are so many dogs taken for walks in the forest - not all of them are kept under control :(

Much safer to have them looked after by a trusted friend or use a boarding facility. I'm sure people on here can recommend one near you :)

When we stayed in the new forest I woke up with a cows head in the tent :{ (it was attached to the body obviously) Not really a piggy friendly place I wouldn't think.

The decision has been taken away now! Our 8 month old cat was hit last night, and is in the vets as we speak! I'm worried sick! How it happened as we live right at the end of a cul- de-sac I will never know! I'm not going anywhere! Going to stay where I'm happiest .... At home with my animals!
