I have been going cold turkey from being piggie products for about 2/3 months now and I very proud of myself. I got a bit ridiculas and was spending between £100-£200 per month on my four pigs.

Now I am only allowed to buy veggies, hay and dried food. They had four 50 litre boxes full of toys and treats which are slowly going down. I am trying to limit their treats I used to go through 2 bags of herbal treats per week for my four pigs along with 2 additional treats of things like those burgess stick things of herbs wrapped in paper etc... they also got new toys every couple of weeks as well.

Anyway I am thinking about not buying them any christmas presents and just giving them something I already have in one of the boxes. Is this mean?

Once I have run out of treats I will buy more but only maybe a couple of bags of herbs a month or something and will get them when they are on offer for 3for2 or something!

wow you really spoilt those piggies! It is not mean they will know no different and you bank manager will be much happier i am sure!

No that is not mean they have lots of toys by the sound of it and I'm sure they haven't played with all of them as they have so many to chose from. And they are very spoilt already so they wont miss them!
I know what you mean about buying piggy toys etc as ive just bought new beds and ordered Christmas stuff off pampared piggy which came to £30 so i too will be going cold turkey and only buying hay&food&veg.

I'm a bit like you so trying to not buy too much at the moment either!

I think you're right about Christmas. Not sure what I'm going to go yet but with a zillion pets they wont get much each. I normally get the cats some fish and the dog some meat so not sure what i'll get the guineas as not had them for a Christmas before. Probably more likely to get them fresh herbs - a few bunches of their favourites.

I got my piggies some wooden chew christmas treats and that's all they are getting. There is 12 of them after all lol. I spend a lot each month but I have had some big vet bills this month so Christmas will be tight, I've got 4 kids to buy for too xx

I had no idea it would be so easy to spend money on my guinea pigs. I kinda thought they would be an inexpensive pet save for the vet bills... Boy was I ignorant! There's so much stuff out there that I want to get for them! I know they're just as happy with a cardboard box and don't care whether the fleece matches the cuddle cups -but I embaressingly do. rolleyes

I've never bought my piggies Christmas presents... Am I mean? Thing is they've never bought me any, and it's not like I give to receive but, still... They do get lots of treats though, apart form anythign the peelings from the Christmas lunch keeps them going a while! LOL

I've raised my piggies as athiests, so they don't celebrate Christmas. Trust me, they won't even notice! :)

I can't afford to spend huge sums on accessories, but itis amazing how much you can pamper them by using a little bit of imagination and DIY!

Christmas here means a bit of melon and fresh fruit from our own starter - that is treat enough!

Good on you; it's so easy to spend huge sums!

I don't buy gifts for anyone (I'm atheist so it all seems a bit daft), but I do buy for all the pets!

Zak (dog) will get a selection of toys and treats, and the piggies and rabbits normally get willow toys to destroy and naturals treats. :(|)

Mine are spoiled rotten and infairness I only have 2 pets, so can afford to spoil them but I really don't think they will know any difference, sure give them a paperbag they will love it and it's free xx>>>! By the sounds of things they have more than enough!

HO HO How much?

My kids still think Santa buys all the animals pressies! They all used to have their own stockings to hang up but this year they're going to have to double up. My lad has started a Xmas fund for the piggies and rabbits, saving some of his pocket money, bless!
P@H have some Xmas chews and things for piggies that don't cost too much so they will get a little something each but I certainly won't be spending a fortune - we have lots of pets as well as two kids both with birthdays just after Xmas. No planning there on my part.rolleyes

And as for the original question if it's mean not to buy something new... of course not. The piggies will probably be more excited about a slice of apple than a new polar fleece bed if I know my piggies right. The accessories, fleece and stick bridges are all really more presents for me... And I'm an atheist too so I don't let Christmas limit me, I buy presents all year round :p

I've raised my piggies as athiests, so they don't celebrate Christmas. Trust me, they won't even notice! :)

Yep, mine are definitely athiests. They like nothing better than talking over "Thought for the Day" every morning on Radio 4. But then I like little furry heathens. :)

Just thinking though, I may box up some of their chocolate beans all festive to give to the local kids :(|) :p;)

I'm trying to make up some guinea pig 'stockings' full of gp fun things/treats/toys to sell in the run up to christmas, am sure there are lots of peeps out there who will buy them. but I'm running out of ideas....trying to keep the cost as low as possible, but keeping the contents fun and interesting too. does £5-£7 per stocking sound a lot? hoping to include 1 toy, pack of treat bars, pack of the herb mix things, cute little food bowl with a xmas design on and 1 other item(not decided what yet any ideas let me know!)
