I'm considering buying a hutch for my girls to live out in the summer, they are only young still so obviously havent stayed out before but i just thought it woud be nicer for them when its warm enough!

is this a good idea?
...and also any recomendations for good hutches welcome for my spoilt girls!:(|)

I'm thinking of doing the same for my boys so any help advice would be welcome too :-D thanks!

I'm not experienced but i personally don't see a problem as long as there's bedding if it is a slightly chilly night, mine will be out all year (unless it gets VERY cold then they'll go in the front room)

You say it may be nicer for your babies to be outside but I actually think they would be happier indoors were it is always warm and they are safe with you and get to see and hear you around. I would never have my piggies outside as I want them with me all the time. Just my opinion.

I prefer to keep mine indoors. That way there is no risk of rats, mice other animals attacking them, no risk of them getting a chill and I dont have to go outside to see to them 2x a day regardless of weather.

I do put mine out for a run when its nice and not much different in temperature to my house.

Its personal preference but if your pigs are indoors you can see them all the time! Mine wheek when I walk through my front door!

As a compromise you could buy a secure run so that you can put your girls out on the grass on nice warm days but still bring them back indoors over night.

We used to have our pigs indoors between October and April and then move them into a large hutch in our shed for the summer (they also had run time on the grass). However, as my original gang have got older I have kept them indoors all the time and take them outside on nice days.

If you do decide to purchase a hutch make sure it's a good size (minimum 4ft x 2ft - bigger if you can) and nice and sturdy and raised off the ground. You can add hidey houses and tunnels and of course lots of hay to make the girls feel safe.

My girls go outside in the summer. They are indoor pigs during the winter months but they dont seem to mind being outside when its warmer. I just make sure they have plenty of hay to snuggle in and i lay fleece over the doors at night with a plastic sheet on top to keep it dry.

They have a lazybones hutch which is a good hutch. Its on legs so they arnt on the ground and they come in loads of sizes. The only thing i would say is the locks on them arnt that great but I'm in the middle of painting mine so ill **** update them for something more secure.

I do have a run for them which they enjoy being in but it isnt secure to leave them in hence thinking about a good hutch, thanks for the advice:)
and piggyfan i thought it would be nicer because guinea pigs naturally would live outside ad they enjoy being out!

I'm still undecided but thanks for all your opinions :)
