We're having a new boiler, radiators and fire.. there's going to be a lot of drilling, banging, and dust etc, and there's just no where quiet enough to put my piggies.. I'm a little worried about Liquorice, as she's very timid at the best of times, but hates visitors with a passion, and I'm unlikely to see her outside her house until either after they've gone or probably xmas..
Having just spoke to the neighbours who've just had there flat done, it's going to be pandemonium, and we have to watch the builders like hawks as they tend to 'cut corners' with regards to workmanship..

No :... Humbug, Treacle and BonBon could cope, but Liquorice has always been shy and although I've managed to get her to come round, it's only me and my Oh who can handle her, she scarpers if we have a visitor so much as glance at her..
I'm thinking of moving them to the spare bedroom, as it's probably going to be the quietest place, and put a blanket over their cage..
The reason I'm so worried about the noise is when upstairs flat had their heating done, I could hear the drill through a pair of earplugs and a couple of pillows strategically placed over my ears when I was in bed (the drilling started at 8am!).. It's a pity it's so cold, as I'd put them outside for a few hours, they're indoor piggies, so I tend to wrap them up in cotton wool :))
My neighbour told me by the time they'd finished there was an inch of soot and dust over everything in the front room!

oh blimey thats not gonna be good.

i wonder if there is anyway of soundproofing their space? how long is the work going to take? could you go somewhere and stay with them?

ooooh another thought, do you have a car, could you leave them in a car, yours or your neighbours?

8 hours tomo, 2 on wed and about 8 on thurs.. depending on whether the work guys mess up the job.. my upstairs neighbour is at work, and has a dog, and next door, we think she's in hospital as she's elderly and we haven't seen her or her family in days.. they also have dogs..
I might ask MIL as she's got a garage....

Understand your concerns here totally. We had new heating and rewiring done two years ago and the chaos it caused still puts me off having anything done now - luckily my OH is a builder so tends to do most things himself :))
We hadn't got the piggies at the time but it was a nightmare so would advise you to put them somewhere quiet or stay with someone if at all possible :)
Are there any members on here close to you who could piggy sit for a few days ?/

The work started before 8am, so we weren't able to move them in time as I originally intended on just leaving them at MIL during the day as it's cold in the garage at night and these are indoor piggies:(
But, it wasn't half as noisy as we thought it would be, or dusty, I ended up having to cover their cages up and cross my fingers.. They were not bothered in the slightest!
In fact Treacle kept sitting near the water bottle trying to see what was going on.. Liquorice was seen munching hay outside the house, so she wasn't bothered either, so I think when they were in the upstairs flat the other week, they desensitised our piggies!
Eta: the noise upstairs was far louder than the noise they made down in our flat, but they'd also had a gas fire fitted, so had their chimney hearth made bigger, ours was blocked up, as we were having electric.. and their front room is right above the guineas room..
And also each night they were popcorning, as soon as they heard the sounds of rustling bags (hay and greens)..
