Just got my delivery of seeds today so will be planting up my vegetable garden tomorrow. I'll have loads of fresh veg all the way until February for me, the kids and piggies. Might even convince my husband to eat a few, it worried me how little veg he eats.

Now to spend the next hour working out all the bits of the plants they can eat

:D I would like to have a veg patch in my garden too, but can't spare the space in the grass. Also not sure just how green my fingers are !

does anyone know if the types of a specific veg makes a difference or does it all just count as the same thing? e.g. I've ordered a few different types of carrots like normal carrots, purple carrots, white carrots etc do they all just count as carrots? or I've ordered a few different types of cabbage like savoy cabbage, hearting cabbage, red cabbage etc

@7squeakers. I moved house 2 years ago from a flat with no garden. I've always wanted a veg garden but never had space either until now. My husband is starting to complain about how much of the grass I'm turning into veg garden, possibly more because I've talked him into helping me dig it rather than he wants the grass there lol. I've also no idea how green my fingers are but I did manage to get a nice crop of strawberries last year that I planted so I'm hoping it's a good sign. I've also grown herbs and baby leaf lettuces for years on my windowsill but with varying degrees of success :S

:D @Namaah I remember when I was much younger, I grew sunflowers in our garden. I wanted the seeds for the Greenfinches. Those sunflowers grew more than 6 ft tall!
On the other hand, I've planted 6 guinea pigs in my back garden in recent years and none of them have come up! :))

I've just planted sunflowers with my 3 youngest kids, I only planted them 4 weeks ago and the are already 6 inches tall, Going to have to find a new spot for them if they are going to grow to 6 foot :(

Great stuff, good look with the veg patch. unsure on the variants of carrots etc.... hopefully someone more green fingered may be around shortly

Last year I grew lots of veg in pots by the back door. Places like B & Q and Wilko sell special seeds for pots. My particular favourites were dwarf green beans and baby carrots, but there are also radishes, spring onions (not for piggies) and lettuce that can be grown in pots. Herbs are also great in a pots.
