tomorrow night I'm going to visit my in-laws down in somerset and won't be back until sunday afternoon, and I'm going to really miss my piggies :( my Grandma will be popping in to feed them and check their water on saturday night, i hate the idea of them being couped up for 2 whole days, i always have piggies running around my feet when i'm at home or always having cuddles, and i don't exactly get on with the inlaws so am dreading it, i just want to stay at home with my piggies!

I'm sure they'll be okay for a couple of days. As long as their cage is big enough for them to roam around and that they are fed and watered daily they should be happy :)

I'm going home to my parents at Christmas for 2 weeks :O So my OH is looking after them

Aww I'm sure they'll be fine and VERY excited to see you when you get back :) I take mine with me....not that I don't trust my OH with them :))

I hope you have a lovely time, it'll fly by :)

Rachel x

Awww hun, i'm sure the time will pass quickly, just keep smiling x

We were away to relatives for 5 days in September and then for a weekend three weeks later. I hated leaving the animals with a carer and missed them terribly. A girl who works part time in pets at home looks after small animals so she took them all, budgie, 2 guinea pigs. 3 gerbils and a dwarf hamster. We are going to Egypt for two weeks in March but not looking forward to it as much as I would normally be because now I have to leave all my babies :((

Normally they would go over to my friend, who is a rodentologist, but its a lot of upheaval for 2 nights and money is a bit tight aswell, god that sounds awful doesn't it? can't take them with me as the inlaws have a staffy and i dont trust him at all (even just around humans!) I know my Grandma will check them over etc as shes had a lot of piggies in the past, i think i just worry to much rolleyes

Sandra, the longest i've been away from my pigs was 5 days, don't think i could manage 2 weeks!

I have given up on holidays dont want to leave my animals, anyway I love HOME. Always been a home bird.

My boys have always stayed at home because there has always been someone at home in the past. Things changed dramatically in 2009 and we had to re-think. My parents live 3 miles away with a huge shed and garden. They too are very used to piggies and although they were concerned how their cats would take to them.
A couple of days before we flew out to family in the States all the boys went to settle in. On the last day we popped down to see if everything was ok (not knowing what we were going to do if there was). My mother cats would sit a few feet awat from the garden pen and chased off the neighbours cats as if to say 'They are our house guests- not yours'.
When we got home I actually had to prise Barclay and Abarth off my mother and Shelby stayed for a few extra days at her request. We weren't missed.

This year we did it again. The boys appear to know where they were and even though it was Stratos's first trip he got the 'fever' and popcorned the minute he was put out in mum's garden.
Once again I had trouble getting them home and two of the stayed at 'Granny's' for a few extra days.
Mind you I notice the cats came to the car just to make sure they were going!

I think if we didn't go away next year there will be protests from the piggies first and then my parents, after all Dad said they worked on the grass for him really well and now can see why we have a lovely lawn cut to a perfect level without a lawn-mower in sight.
